x308 XJR Clock Spring or Earth Fault?
Discussion
I have an x308 XJR with a couple of electrical gremlins, I’m sure that’s not of great surprise to owners and experts
First issue, if the headlights are on auto and I indicate left the lights go out. Indicating right is not a problem, and the hazards don’t (IIRC) trip it either. Once you cancel the indicators the headlights come back on.
Secondly, the airbag light now has a habit of being on more often, than off. The light comes on, goes out, then comes back on again, solid. It’s been scanned by a Jag specialist last time it was in for a service, but predictably the light stayed clear for the duration of the service and no codes were found. When it first started occurring I thought there was a correlation between the steering column position and whether it’d come on and so I’d turned off the auto adjust off on the column but recently it doesn’t appear to matter where the wheel is set, the light comes on.
I’ve read a few threads now about the clock spring behind the steering wheel being the culprit for control related issues and battery voltage is not the issue as it's had a new battery and lives on a conditioning charger. As I’m pretty confident the lights at least are an earth fault I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and has replacing the clock spring solved them?

You headlight problems are possibly wiring at the switch/stalk.
Quite common fault, wires become brittle and break, or make partial contact.
Airbag you will need the blink code, or a code reader.
Turn ign on, watch the light. It will blink 2 numbers.
A series of flashes denotes the first number, there will be a pause, then a second set of flashes will give you the second number.

This is where the wiring fails

Mick sorry it has taken a couple of days to respond, I had to order a replacement set of stalks and fit them. The good news is that with the stalks replaced my issue with the lights going off when on auto and indicating right had gone away.
At the moment it looks like the airbag issue may have gone away too but I've not had chance to drive it to confirm yet.
Hopefully this helps you sort yours.
