Jaguar XJ8 X308 front os door lock removal

I found messages about this subject before but the lock setup was different to mine, which is a year 2000 UK model registered in December 2000.
I have the door card off, electrics taken off, the wire for the internal lock handle off and the rod removed for the external door handle. I have removed the bolts from the edge of the door and the door lock is free. It seems to be in 2 parts ( I guess the part I cannot see is the motor) which straggle then guide for the window (which is up). I am now not sure whether the lock is supposed to slide down under the bottom of the guide but there is something I cannot quite see that is stopping it. Alternatively the two parts may well need to be separated but I cannot see how to do this. I do not want to force it to cause damage so a little guidance perhaps from someone who has been there before would be very welcome.
