Should I ?????

Been thinking aboout upgrading from my 280 bhp Subaru Legacy B4...and thought an upgrade in power would be nice

I want:
A Car for less than £30k(ish)
A car less than 5 years old (for company car allowance I have to have one less than 6 years old)
A car that wont depreciate too much (hopefully less than 5k per year over a couple of years);
Wont rattle my fillings out on a long run;
Reasonably comfortable;
Has got some poke;
backed by a reasonable (preferably dealer) warranty;
Reliable;
Wont be too much of a target for chav-with-keys-in-hand (I like Q-cars).
Fuel consumption not a major problem (bless that lovely company fuel card of mine)

So far been thinking of M3 (hate the image), M5 (pricey, but hold value well), or even splitting between a sensible motorway cruiser and a 'toy' (but I spend most weeks away from home, so probably not too much of a viable option)

Anyway, enough waffle:
Does the S-Type R fit the bill?
What should I look out for/beware of?
Is the Jag warranty good, and do they pay-up on extended warranty claims without too much grief?
How frequent (and expensive) is servicing?
Other than price what has anyone found as the 'extras' a Jag Dealer will give way on in negotiations (12 months servicing, extra warranty etc ?)
What are next weeks winning lottery numbers?

Sorry for all the questions...I want to get my facts straight before I test drive anything.
Many, many thanks for any help
Nick

Hi Nick,

I'll try to help with some answers from the S-Type R perspective.

N> A Car for less than £30k(ish)
L> you can get a 2-3 year old S-Type R in that range quite easily.
N>A car that wont depreciate too much (hopefully less than 5k per year over a couple of years)
L> depends a bit on your mileage but you could be a bit optimistic on that score.
N> Wont rattle my fillings out on a long run
L> definitely wont do that.
N> Reasonably comfortable
L> Very very comfortable
N> Has got some poke
L> yep and plenty of it
N> backed by a reasonable (preferably dealer) warranty
L> yep you can buy with Jaguar used car warranty
N> Reliable
L> had mine 5 months and 15k miles - so far so good.
N> Wont be too much of a target for chav-with-keys-in-hand (I like Q-cars)
L> Never had that and mine is a bit visibly modified so you'll be fine on that score

N> Does the S-Type R fit the bill?
L> IMO yes
N> What should I look out for/beware of?
L> No real pitfalls that I know of. Buy wisely and with a warranty ...
N> Is the Jag warranty good, and do they pay-up on extended warranty claims without too much grief?
L> No experience but others seem to be OK
N> How frequent (and expensive) is servicing?
L> 10K intervals and cheap - much cheaper than BMW.
N> Other than price what has anyone found as the 'extras' a Jag Dealer will give way on in negotiations (12 months servicing, extra warranty etc ?)
L> Dont know bought mine from an independant (Racing Green) as a bundled deal with modifications included.
N> What are next weeks winning lottery numbers?
L> do let me know when you find out .... preferably before next week

Email me via my profile if you wish - I am local to you - but I am going away for a few days so I wont reply untill early next week.

Cheers,

You could also consider an '02 Audi RS6 which are coming down in price quite nicely now although you may struggle to find one for much less than £30k.

I'd say Jag is great value for money used but will depreciate quite badly...probably the same as any other super saloon tho'. Your fuel card will be seeing plenty of action too!
