Jaguar XF 2.2 diesel - eco update during service

During a recent service the girl dealing with me informed me they were doing an ecu software update. I asked why and what benefits it would bring. She was sadly clueless on it.

Anyone know where I’d find release notes for such updates and how I find out what version I currently have ?
