Is the V8 F-Type the sort of car that can be enjoyed when just driving slowly / medium pace - rather than having to set the world on fire in order to get a thrill?

Cheers

My old man has an F Type R, I have driven it a few times, it's a car that never ceases to put a smile on my face. It's not a Lotus Elise, but it's still a good laugh, the engine absolutely dominates though.

Thanks.

When you say the engine dominates, is it OTT?

Having owned an R for a week, I'd say the engine is OTT in terms of noise and performance but only when you want it to be.

Keep the exhaust in normal mode and the revs below 3000rpm and it can do a quiet relaxed cruise as well anything else. Go beyond that and it's like Nascar with gunfire.

Every drive feels like an occasion thanks to the low driving position, cockpit feel of the cabin, positive steering, excellent turn in and balanced handling.

Well it's his daily driver and absolutely loves it. I wouldn't say it's OTT, but it's definitely not for some. There is quite a difference between when the exhaust is in "sports" mode or not. I'd say for general driving having it out of sports mode would be preferable, but honestly it's so addictive....although it does egg you on a bit....he's had some nice cars over the years, but this is definitely the best sounding and addictive. Sure, a 911 is sharper, but this makes you smile more smile

Yes is the answer but if its madness you seek. That's yours too.

Absolutely - good car for both daily drive and to annoy the cr*p out of neighbours.

It is getting a bit long in the tooth from an interior electronics point of view and it is darn heavy but a sense of occasion every time it is driven. Shame they abandoned the Firesand Orange.

Swapped my F Type for a Mclaren ... smile

Yes, they also sound great with the roof down and can be good on fuel, having said that a Boxster S with sports exhaust and PDK would run it a close second.

Had mv SVR a month now, I use it as my daily at the moment, great fun. I drove it 'quite sensibly' all day yesterday and it returned just under 30mpg, so its Green too....
