S type R limited performance.

Recently purchased an S type R .
Everything as it should be for the last 2 months but coming home tonight there was a distinct lack of power.
It seemed as if the charger wasn`t working but at the same time you could hear the distinctive whine.
Was very slow to pick up and just wouldn`t go above 4000 rpm.
After a while a Limited Performance warning came up for maybe 30 seconds and went off again but the fault is still there.
Anyone out there got any thoughts before I take it to the local garage on Monday.

Any number of reasons could cause this, you need to have the car scanned for fault codes. I had the same on my previous 4.2 XKR, turned out to be the secondary coolant pump failed - the electric one that pumps coolant for the intercoolers.

Any other symptoms, e.g does it cut out when hot? Stall? Misfiring? Smoke of any colour from the exhaust? Noises?

Knock sensors will cause this. The car goes into restricted performance randomly but doesn’t store any codes which makes tracking the issue down difficult.

Does the engine light come on?

Just an update on this in case its of any use to anyone.
Turns out a coil pack was dead,so a simple replacement fix.
