Hi all. My XF has started with a brake pads low warning. Is there a way to see whether it is front or back pads that need replacing? Physically looking without wheels off they all look low so that’s not helping.

Also if it’s rear it seems only jaguar can replace them as the electric handbrake needs disabling. Is that the case?

Rear pads is an easy DIY job. I did mine. Disconnect the battery if your worried about the EPB actuating. You need to re calibrate the EPB afterwards, instructions for that in the handbook.

No recalibration required. It does it itself.

And the handbook doesn’t contain info on recalibration, as it’s not really a handbook subject.

Remember, this is an XF, not an XJ biggrin

Your wrong. The info is in the handbook on my 2011 XF at least. The EBP should be recal'd after pad replacement or battery disconnect. Its something along the lines of pressing the pedal so many times and actuating the handbrake. Don't have the book on me now otherwise I would tell you the page number.

How do you rewind the piston, with the EPB?

With a rewind tool - the same type that is used for lots of cars with handbrakes that clamp the main disks. The tool I bought for my x-type worked on the XF

I’m more than happy changing pads on older cars. But these new fangled electronic things scare me off. I’ll get jaguar to do it. Thanks all.

Came in here to ask a similr question so pointless starting a new thread.

My mate in the uae has a 2013 2.0l petrol xf and he wants me to buy new pads whilst in the uk. I don’t think these were sold here as i can only see 2.2 diesel and then 3.0 and larger petrol options.

Can anyone suggest a parts dealer who could run the vin and tell me which pads will suit?

With the exception of the XFR all XF's had the same rear brakes.

Front brakes were either 326mm or 355mm. The bigger ones were only fitted to 3.0 diesel S models and the V8 cars.

So your mates are almost certainly 326mm fronts.

Never recalibrated any of the rear pads fitted to any of my XFs.

And it’s ‘you’re’.
