I have a Jaguar xj8 1998
How do I reconfigure key when changing battery on key fob. The remote control has ceased to work since changing battery? How many batteries should I use, 1 Or 2?
Thanks
Di

How many did you take out?? Put the same amount back in. Normally if the old batteries are changed for new within 30seconds there should be any reprogramming needed?

Sticks.

1998 has the earlier fob and uses two CE2016 batteries at 3V each. Later fobs have one CR2032 3V battery. You cannot use the later fobs with earlier cars.

Here's what to do.

Hold the headlight flasher back and turn ignition key to position 1
Release the headlight flasher then flash the headlights 4 times

This puts the security system into programme mode. To confirm you should hear beeps from the alarm and the security LED by the J gate should be flashing

Programme each transmitter fob - you can do up to 5 - by pressing either the lock or unlock button. The alarm will beep when you do this to show it's received the signal from the fob.

The alarm has to beep 5 times to complete the reprogramme, so if you have one transmitter then press the lock or unlock button 5 times, if you have two then do three presses on one and two on the other, if you have three then... oh go on you can work it out.

If you want to do the job properly then before you reprogramme prise the fob apart, remove the small Phillips screw holding the pcb in and clean the contacts and buttons underneath with some meths or nail varnish remover. Make sure you put the batteries back the right way round

That and new batteries will get the fob 100% functional again
