Why is the Jag F Type R top speed "only" 186mph

My guess is aerodynamics.
Stuff like the window wipers flying off the edge of the windscreen or arch liners/plastic trims being torn off the car.
186mph is like a category 5 hurricane wind.
So how is it, sometimes I see E55k’s and E60 M5’s doing 205 on a dodgy motorway in Russia safely, could it be down to weight as well?Stuff like the window wipers flying off the edge of the windscreen or arch liners/plastic trims being torn off the car.

This is a subject I struggle with as an SLS AMG with 570 bhp doesn’t crack 200 yet a Vanquish with 460 bhp can

I was saying that the car is limited by Jaguar to 186mph because that’s what it’s designed and tested to do.This is a subject I struggle with as an SLS AMG with 570 bhp doesn’t crack 200 yet a Vanquish with 460 bhp can
There will be somebody in a design office whose job is to specify the materials and fixings for body trim/seals for example.
The car might be able to do 210mph but it’s no good if the door seals leak, the side skirts snap off or it has weird handling at those speeds.
Tyres are a good call. Top speed is probably the difference between being able to use a £200 off the shelf tyre or being special-order only.
Weight has very little effect on top speed. It’s dominated by drag and power. (Assuming it’s optimally geared)

DIdn't they bend the bonnet hinges on the XJ220 when they tried to get more speed out of it by removing the cats. The car might be able to do 210mph but it’s no good if the door seals leak, the side skirts snap off or it has weird handling at those speeds.

You need stability at that speed, hence the wing on the SVR. Where the SVR is customer optioned without the wing, it’s limited to 186
My TVR Chimaera 500 is supposed to have top speed of 170mph. Perhaps it does on a rolling road but on the autobahn it was ready to take off when I got to 125. You need stability at that speed, hence the wing on the SVR. Where the SVR is customer optioned without the wing, it’s limited to 186

Keep going - when you get past 130 - the wind starts to go back over the top and it all sits down quite well...Mastiff said:
