Apart from the 2000 year XJ8 on my recent post, I've also seen a 1997 XJR with75,000 on the clock. It's a JDM LHD model.
What do I need to look for with these?
I really fancy a change, and there isn't much that's floating my boat at the moment. But a big Jaguar saloon is doing it for me, and being of a certain age, and a slightly dodgey left knee, I'm ready for a smoking lounge on wheels smile. But I know nothing about them as you can probably tell.
My budget is 10k tops, and it has to be LHD. There's not much out there.
TIA smile

Assume you mean an XJR6 with the AJ16 supercharged engine?

Lovely cars IMO, more chrome than the V8 models that came later. And the Inline 6 is arguably more "Jaguar". I think rust is the biggest issue on these still and obviously check all the electronic bits work. Mechanically I think they are pretty robust and don't massively differ from the earlier XJ40 or XJS models.

Yes Sir, it does have the 4.0 straight six, supercharged engine. I doubt there is rust though, being a JDM.
It is listed as a X306 though, is this correct?

Well, after speaking to my Gestor ( the Lady who deals with registering my foreign toys smile ) here in Mallorca, JDM is out of the question. Impossible to put on Spanish papers frown
What a shame, some of the JDM cars are beauties!
Still interested in learning a bit about these cars though wink

That's a shame. Would there be any options to register in the UK first, then to Spain afterwards?

I've spoken to her about it, and she says it depends on which Country the car was Homologated for. So it's a no. Obviously a car is Homologated for the market it's built for.

While it's normal to refer to them all as X300's I think that the V12 is an X305 and the XJR is an X306.
The Wiki lists them like this, but I'm sure I've seen these in other places too.

A bit of research has turned up some good web pages for Spanish registered cars. This will save me a lot of ball ache.
My Gestor recons anything that needs putting on Spanish papers is going to cost me two and a half grand, so I've been looking closer to home, and there even seems quite a few V8 XJR's for not a lot of money smile
I'm going to slow down a bit and do a bit more research, learn a bit about these cars.
Thanks all for your responses. If you have any tips, please keep posting wink
TIA.

Found one 20Km from home !
Just had a good poke around, going back in the morning to hear it start from cold.
The Guy met me at a petrol station, so I want to see it at his house cold.
The sunroof isn't working, a plastic piece has broken, so it jams open, the guy has disconnected it.
The headlining has sagged, and there are a few scuffs on the leather, and very faint signs of cracking lacquer on the door trims.
The bodywork is straight as a die, and the lovely dark blue metallic paint is like glass.
The engine and under-body are dry and clean, and the engine when warm is very very quiet.
I can see a black plastic gasket on the water pump, so I guess that's been done, but no green tag at the back of the engine, so I'm guessing also it's still with the Nikasil bores.
It's done 134,000Km and has dealer stamps from new up to 100,000.
There are 4 brand new tires with less than 1000Km on them I'm told.
The thing pulls like a train, and just keeps going! The gear changes are seamless.
No knocks or bumps from the suspension, and it pulls up straight with hands off the wheel.
So I'm back for another look in the morning, and I think I'm going to make him an offer, using the sunroof and headlining as leverage to get the price down. But it is priced fairly for the Spanish market. It's a 1998, so it ain't going to be new, but what a lot of car for little money!
A bit of work on the headliner and sunroof, and I always go through new purchases myself, changing fluids and filters. I'm a marine engineer by trade, so I can swing my own spanners.
I think I'm going to enjoy this smile

So if its a 1998 you looked at then it's a V8.....I thought you wanted an XJR6?
Or was it registered very late?

Niksail bores are nothing to worry about on a car with 134000km, it would have let go by now

Yes, I went back this morning, and true to his word the fellow left it out of the garage last night, so it was stone cold, and so I could see, although I did have my lamp with me, it's nice to have another good look around in daylight.
The motor runs like a Swiss watch. Zero timing chain noise. There was a nice flow of coolant from the return line in the header tank.

I was initially interested in an XJ8, but it was a US import on a UK V5, and was going to be costly, and difficult to get onto Spanish plates, plus the dealers selling it were totally useless at returning my calls, and didn't respond to e-mails, so I didn't bother to fly over for a look.
Then I saw a very nice six cylinder XJR, but that was JDM, and that turned out to be impossible to put on Spanish papers.
So I started looking around Spain, and decided I wanted the Supercharged V8, but there are only about a dozen or so in Spain, and two in the Balearics where I live.

This one turned out to be a 10 minute drive away, and is the only one I ended up looking at, because although it needs some work on the trim, the body is beautiful, and it seems to be very good mechanically, and drives beautifully, so I figured for what I will spend on flights and travelling all over Spain, and the cost of ferries getting it back to the Island, I can spend that money on fettling this one, and end up with a very nice Rocket Ship.
So I've left a deposit, and the Fellow is picking me up on Monday, so we can go together to the Gestor, get the paperwork signed over, and I'll drive it home smile

First "new" car I've bought in 12 years, and it's the same colour as my old truck! I was after a black car, but I guess it's meant to me. The metallic dark blue does look very elegant I must say smile

OK

Your first job must be to get tensioners checked/replaced.
