Dear all,

I'm looking for advice regarding my recent purchase
It is a 2008 XKR with 90,000km on the clock
It is good condition and I purchased it for a very good price.

It has spent all of its life in the UAE and as such needs some cosmetic issues sorting out but I am more interested in the mechanical side of things.
What sort of things would need doing to it...?

- Supercharger pulley/belts ? Will the heat/humidity out here have any impact on the belts in terms of deterioration ?
- Gearbox fluid change and flush ?
- Suspension ?

It does have a small oil leak and it is currently at the garage getting a full service, oil leak checked and a general inspection.

I cannot find any evidence of a fault whilst driving it but I am keen on getting it in tip-top shape.

Thanks

Hi

I can't speak on anything XK specific, but I did have an S type R for 7 years, and I've got a friend who lives in Dubai...

I think the generally high temperatures there do make greater demands of perishable items such as oil, suspension bushes etc, so the service intervals there will be somewhat shorter than here in the UK

Obviously you're getting a service done, so that's good, I would get an oil & filter change for the gearbox sooner rather than later, the official Jag line might be that gearboxes are 'sealed for life' but ZF recommend a 'service' at 60,000 miles, and they should know, they make them! ...and you will probably notice the difference when it's done, the gearbox will seem that bit sharper to respond

I would look at getting the suspension bushes changed at some point, again, that will sharpen things up a bit...and you can decide if you want to go for something a bit stiffer than standard, or just back to how it was 'out of the factory'

If you're looking at changing the supercharger belts, then why not uprate the pulley too, get a bit more power... a remap of the ECU too

Good luck, and enjoy...

...and keep me updated on how you get on, I'm looking at changing the XFR for an XKR soon....
