Jaguar X350 gear engagement problem
Discussion
I have an intermittent problem when engaging gear from standstill. The problem only occurs very occasionally and so far hasn't been too much of an issue. My concern is that one of these days I'll be stuck completely.
It happens as follows :-
With my foot on the brake pedal the gear lever can not be moved to select a gear. With my foot remaining on the brake pedal I hold the gear lever across and after an interval of between say 1 and 5 seconds I hear a click and the gear lever will then operate as normal.
I assume there is an interlock solenoid operated from the brake pedal. Either the solenoid is occasionally sticking or the brake switch has an intermittent fault. I suspect the former.
My local Jaguar main dealer have run a diagnostic and no faults show so they've told me to call back when it happens again ! It's frustrating in the extreme talking to a service advisor who has limited technical knowledge so tomorrow I'm going back to set about the technicians.
Obviously there is a fault albeit intermittent and I'm not prepared to wait for it to be recovered on a tow truck before they take action.
Does anyone know if there's a likely, or common fault in this area and are my general assumptions as to what's going on correct ?
