Jaguar XF - engone choice!
Discussion
Hi all,
I am looking to buy an XF. I have narrowed my search down to a 201 3.0 TV V6 and a 2008 4.2 V8. The 3.0 is obviously a little newer, and has done 73k miles as opposed to the 93k miles of the 4.2. Both have FSH. price sie the 3.0 is £500 more (both just under 9k)
any thoughts/experiences on both engines etc much appreciated!

The only downside to the petrol is the additional running costs in terms of fuel & RFL, probably about £120 month based on 10000 miles pa.
If you are happy to pay that and if your are equally happy with the condition and spec of both cars then go for the petrol. If you would rather not pay that then go for the diesel.
Both models have similar performance, really good smoothness and refinement and their own particular mechanical foibles. No car will be 100% reliable from that age and mileage, it will be more down to good luck with those particular examples.

Thank you for the response, much appreciated. I see the VED is higher on the petrol too. The 3.0 came in two variants, a 240ps and a 275ps. Obviously the 275 is more fun. I’ve had two and we’re great and very refined. However the 550ps V8 I have now is no comparison.
The 3.0 will suffer with dpf issues if you do lots of short journeys and not allowing a regen. So bear that in mind.

You've not sat in either of them yet have you?https://www.woodstockcarsales.co.uk/search_page.ph...
The Prem Lux ( like the petrol car ) is far more luxurious inside than the Lux ( like the Diesel ).Softer grain leather on the seats, real leather dashboard top, better sound system, keyless entry, bigger wheels, split fold rear seats, heated front seats, bigger tange of elec adjustment on the front seats inc lumbar, seat memory, power fold mirrors.
If you can live with the extra fuel costs the petrol is the far nicer spec of those two cars. If you would prefer a diesel I would recommend taking a look at both interiors and seek out a Prem Lux diesel if you prefer it too.

Seen both - what fantastic cars!
long story short - I have bought the 3.0. It has lots of extras too so interior wise pretty much the same, and the cost savings swung it for me as well as it being a little newer and lower mileage. Cant wait to collect her!
Come on over to www.jaginfo.org and introduce yourself. Any car that age is going to need some tinkering, and there’s plenty of experience on there with what can go wrong and how to fix it cheaply. long story short - I have bought the 3.0.
