Quite fancy an older Jag XJ but confused by which meet the requirements

Oddly only the XJ6 3.0 V6 Sovereign and 4.2 V8 Supercharged seem to be Euro4. Was this a newer engine on the X350?

Would it be better to look at Euro-5 compliance just in case 'old' Euro-4 petrol cars get penalised in a year or two?

Eu-5 have a slightly lower NOx limit and there may also be a particulate matter limit, even on petrols.

Years away according to people in the 'Diesel ban' thread. But TBF I still have 3 years before I can't drive my Euro5 diesel.

Are they really going to ban all cars that comply with one of their previous regulations? If so what compensation will they give the millions of affected people who were told they were saving the planet by buying 'Euro 5'?

No doubt the MOT will be tightened and older petrol and diesel cars will fail and it will not be cost effective to retrofit these cars to make them cleaner. The other killer for older petrols will be the introduction by the UK of E10 Petrol, (90% petrol and 10% biofuel) to reduce CO2 emissions .The extra percentage of biofuel can cause issues with plastic parts from anywhere between the fuel tank and the engine innards. It was only from 2011 that all cars sold in the UK had to be E10 compliant.

That's alright, I've got a diesel. Interesting. Never heard of E10, thanks!

I suppose in 3 years I'll just have to get a post 2011 petrol and keep my ear to the ground for rumours of Euro5/7 standards, although will they likely be based on ICCT standards post Brexit

You haven't got 3 years. The government will approve E10 possibly as early as September, it already sold in many European countries. The UK has signed up to start showing a reduction in CO2 emissions by 2020, to achieve that goal, they have to introduce E10 as it immediately will have an effect on all petrol emissions. Also many cities are considering banning non euro6 diesels before 2020 or charging them an emission charge

That's OK, thanks to our less perceptive citizens, we'll be out of the Euro by early next year so presumably Euro emission compliance rules will not apply.

If you mean the EU not the Euro, I expect May to kowtow to Barnier and we'll effectively stay in. It would be lovely to tear up all the EU regs overnight, but I think we've forgotten how to run our own country, and decades of foreign 'regs' got so deeply embedded the cancer may be inoperable. So all those who voted to stay under the cosh will be happy, they just lost two years of their lives moaning about it smile
