Hi guys

I was wondering if anybody had any insights into what some of the boys running in the JEC saloon series were doing in regards to suspension (and brakes) on their XJs?

I'm not really looking to lower the car (the exhaust already suffers daily on speed bumps at standard height!) but stiffen it up considerably for fast road/track driving.

Google searches for viable upgrades are being pretty fruitless. Most threads I've found seen to advocate upgrading to 'sport' spec dampers and ARB, but my car already has those and the body roll is still pretty comical.

Any insights would be appreciated!

Thanks

Your profile says you've a Sport, like me there were 3 grades of suspension. The soft sovereign version, the hardest XJR version and the Sport suspension was in the middle. IMHO in the Goldilocks zone, but then ride comfort / roll - handling is always a compromise and always a matter of personal preference. Most of the time I never found my X300 Sports handling to be an issue, S bends were really the only time it was problem when you came into the second turn you become aware of just how heavy she is and that all that mass is still going the first way. Before buying mine I had a Celcia GT4 and in a steady state sweeper corner the XJ would have easily out cornered it, I guess it's down to being that wide with a COG at just about floor level.
When I test drove an XJR I found it to be noticeably harder and consequently harsher.

I'm sure I remember seeing ads for polybushes for the X300 suspension. Much of the originals ride comes from the bushes. So guess you could look at replacing the rubber ones with poly bushes.
