2004 XJ suspension
Discussion
My brother has an XJ8 3.5 Sport Premium with 19" wheels, which is a lovely car with the exception of very disappointing ride quality. It gets thrown off course much easier than one would expect of a Jaguar, and is particularly poor on transverse ridges.
I am not convinced that any trick suspension is as effective as a well-sorted, old-fashioned coil spring and telescopic damper set-up on our poor roads. Despite manufacturers' claims about adjusting themselves umpteen thousand times a second, it seems to me (from experience of the XJ and one of my own cars) that they have particular trouble coping with multiple bumps or ridges in quick succession.
That said, the Cambridgeshire roads are generally dreadful and could shake anything to pieces.
Suggestion for a smooth, comfy car with better ride quality than the XJ - a good V6 Vauxhall Omega, I kid you not. My brother had one before the XJ and still misses it.
