Hi there,

I’ve owned a 2009 Jaguar XF diesel S as a daily runabout from new and have covered 160,000 miles so far.

Prior to having the rear suspension bushings replaced I noticed a properly wayward rear end. So much so that the DSC would easily trigger on radiused slip roads and roundabouts even in the dry.

At the last service I followed the advisory notices and had the shock bushings replaced, new rear tyres etc.

The improvement is still only marginal and the rear end still feels v loose. It feels like it wallows about and then pitches the car into oversteer with only mild provocation.

Anyone here what to investigate next? The wheel alignment was done after the suspension work.

Mine does that with an alleged 50,000 on the clock.

With DSC disabled it's like driving a hammock around corners.

Depending what you had done already, I would bite the bullet and replace the rear suspension arms and ARB bushes. TBH, if it's that bad, the front ones will probably be worn to buggery too. I had the same handling issues with an old Supra I had a while back and new rear arms etc transformed it. XFs are weighty sods, so arms etc will wear out and 160K doesn't sound too unrealistic.

I speak as someone who has a complete set of F/R XKR arms and balljoints ready to go on when/as I find the time. The car's done 95K and feels very loose on back roads...

Blimey! My S-Type (with the same underpinnings) had wayward handling and shagged suspension bushes between 80-100k miles. You've done well to get 160k!

New bottom arms (rear) and large bushes (front) are called for, I think.

To summarise it’s had both rear shock bushings, lower control arm bushings and upper wishbone arm bits done. Also had two new front lower control arms

The handlings been fun with the easy oversteer. Problems is that it’s got so bad now that it feels unstable in the dry in a straight line....
