Good day all, hoping for a simple explanation and/or fix for a squeaking exhaust on my 14 reg V6S coupe. It sounds improbable but the exhaust squeaks, most noticeably in slow traffic, and seems to be worst on pressing the accerator (increasing exhaust gas flow through the pipes) and when coming to a halt (I.e. reducing gas flow) and when the engine is turned off. Exhaust is switchable and works fine when I want to turn the noise up or down. Squeak is there in both modes.
Nothing wrong with performance, it’s just really embarrassing to have a car that sounds like something from a farmyard. People stare for all the wrong reasons!
Anyone know if it can be lubricated/adjusted etc.?
TY in advance

Hi Graham,

Had exactly the same on my F Type. Sounded like a single bird tweet when I came off the throttle. Agreed - it was embarrassing, especially so in multi story car parks where is seemed more noticeable.

Mine was sorted by Jaguar without issue, and the tech seemed to know straightaway what the issue was suggesting it is a known fault. Unfortunately it was solved by a new back box. Not sure if that was because the car was under warranty so they could get away with billing Jaguar for the part of whether that is the only fix.

Sorry I cannot be more help.

I assume by 'switchable' you mean you have an active exhaust? If so the valve actuator that opens it when you press the accelerator can seize up slightly and 'squeak' as it moves - usually very noticeable in urban stop-start driving. A quick squirt of oil and it's good to go... or just remove the active exhaust (in the case of my XKR, pull fuse 19...).

John & Mike,
very many thanks for your replies ... I don’t feel quite so daft now! The car has the switchable active exhaust and it does sound like a bird is stuck in there, being wrung out. I’ll see if I can get underneath to see where to squirt some oil.
Tks again

Hi All

I have also just discovered the same problem (also on a V6S with active exhaust) squeaks every time passing through 1100rmp going to/from idle. Was told by Jaguar it is the exhaust valve actuator - they are claiming its a new back box for mine too (£1,160!) and not covered by the extended 5yr warranty!

Did anyone have any luck with a quick/simple fix? If getting underneath - where is the actuator for the exhaust valves located on the silencer?

Thanks in advance!

P

My local MD just gave it a squirt of oil. Assuming yours operates in the same manner it works fine. The squeak did eventually return, but another squirt of oil's a lot cheaper than a backbox from a MD!!
