XK Dynamic R - worth the premium?
Discussion
Hi.
Wondering if any XK Dynamic R owners out there can chime in or anyone who went through the same process. Lucky enough to have car shaped hole in my life at the moment. I've previously owned a 2007 XK and a 2011 XKR. Very tempted by the XK Dynamic R as I can't think of another car for my budget (£45k) that fits the Super GT bill (F-Type not enough luggage space) but I can't quite convince myself that the XK Dynamic R is worth the premium over the last XKR's. Love the styling & seats of the Dynamic R but worried the lowered ride height (XKR-S suspension I believe) makes the ride noticeably firmer/uncomfortable on reasonable roads?
Anyone with any experience of XKR vs XK Dynamic R?
Cheers.

They're basically just an XKR with all the options ticked and a couple of bits from the XKR-S (suspension and crossover exhaust most notably) aren't they? For that sort of budget you'd have a couple of actual XKR-S options I'd have thought, or F-type R coupes if you want a V8, any number of V6S F-types too.
ETA - just re-read your post and saw you'd discounted the F-type, sorry.

XK and XKRs seem to depreciate in fits and starts. I bought my 4.2 XKR about 5 years ago and they didn't seem to lose much for a couple of years, then took a bit of a hit, steadied for a while and then took another hit sometime in the past few months - I was looking recently to check values as I've been thinking of changing mine.
Regards the Dynamic R, they'd be a fantastic car to have, personally I like the pre-facelift much better with the expection of the XKR-S, but I don't imagine they'd hold value as such because they weren't a proper special/limited edition as such, not in the same way that XKR-S is. It was a run-out model, based on a top-line trim level and with some additional goodies thrown in as described above. I guess if you have the budget to choose between that and an XKR-S then it comes down to looks - pick the one you like the look of better because apart from some 40bhp (which I doubt you'd notice on a car that starts with 510 anyway) it's fundamentally just a cosmetic difference.
XKR-S will probably depreciate less than Dynamic R too, worth considering.

Thanks 8bit. You've given me some food for thought. Think it might come down to what becomes available, condition, history etc. I had discounted the XKR-S but I'll give that another look. I did fancy buying from Jaguar for the warranty but previous XK's were rock solid so maybe I can widen my search a bit.
Personally I'd hold out for a nice XKR-S but that's just my opinion, the facelift XK/XKR with the slimmer headlights doesn't look right to me, except on the XKR-S with the extra aero. I'll take mine in Stratus Grey or Italian Racing Red on the Vortex wheels thankyouverymuch.
Other than that, I hate to say it here but that budget would open up a number of possibilities on Maserati Granturismo in very desirable spec, and the rear seats are actually usable for human beings too.

Not a fan of the interior of the Maserati Granturismo, maybe I've just not see a good one. AM Rapide?
The later cars I think got a bit of an update, just finding one without that awful red colour would be tricky. Rapide, didn't occur to me but the cheapest one right now on Autotrader is a shade under £45k and thereafter they're all north of that. Plenty of choice of DB9s though. How important is it to have rear seats of any sort?Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
