Help buying an XF

Hi I am new to the forum and looking for a bit of guidance. Admittedly I know nothing about cars, I have been searching for an XF 2012/2013 for around a month , have test driven a few and noticed (I think) that the engine sound of a 2.2 is very different to the 3.0. It seems louder when stationary than the 3.0 and just seems an altogether louder engine. Is this something that’s the norm? Thanks in advance any other advice welcome

The 2.2 is a 4 cylinder so noisier and the 3.0 is a 6 cylinder so quieter but goes bang on a regular basis. By bang I mean kaput, often snapped crankshafts.

Thanks Monkeylegend , so I am not imagining things ! It’s a nightmare knowing nothing and the salesman clearly realises instantly ha so that has come in handy mate

An S-Type 2.7D is quieter and more refined than either of them. I went from one to an XF 3.0D and the XF was like a transit van in comparison.
