Hi All

I have a 2012 XK that is due a 'B' service. It is the first service since I bought it last summer. Car has now done 48,000 miles.

Previous car was a BMW which I had serviced at Stourbridge Automotive (BMW, Audi, Mercedes specialists) and who were superb. So much better than the local BMW main dealers.

I'd really like to use a good specialist for the Jag too - rather than using a Jaguar main dealer. This isn't about cost. I just want the job done properly by someone who cares and where it won't matter that it will be breaking an otherwise impeccable Jaguar service history as they are considered as good (or better). But I don't know of any top notch local independent Jaguar specialists.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

My next on my 2010 XKR will be a 'B" service and is going to Listers in Droitwich (speak to Ruth). It would have gone there this time but they couldn't fit me in for a couple of weeks and a minor issue required rectifying quickly so it had to go to Stratstone in Stourbridge and the service got done there as well. Stratstone Stourbridge are a top-notch outfit, been using them for some years now, but they have opted out of the 3+ plan for XKR so getting quite pricey as in £614.76 for a 'B' service versus £350 for a 'major' on the 3+ plan and considering what you actually get that is quite an uplift. As yours isn't S/C you might get the 3+ plan price. Speak to Ashley in service, she'll look after you.

I know you asked about indy's but I really don't know of any good ones around here, if I couldn't go anywhere else I'd take it to Viezu just outside Stratford - I've had some good work done there as well and they have an ace Dyno which if you are a member of the XKEC they might let you use.

Thanks Jim

Am inclined to give Fisher Performance Cars on the Rushock Trading Estate near Droitwich a try. They are mainly Aston Martin but do other performance brands. They are fairly new but then everyone has to start somewhere (and they have good pedigree). They also tell me that they have Jaguar diagnostic kit which means hopefully they can fix my occasional weird "check pedestrian system" warning.

Still not sure of the value of a pure Jaguar service history once a car goes over a certain age / mileage. If the car is beautiful and has a quality specialist service history with invoices to support etc then I think it really isn't going to make any difference ?

Agreed on the service history - so long as it has continuity and a company of reasonable pedigree (how to judge that I don't know and that includes some main stealer's). I will look forward to seeing how you get on.

The pedestrian impact system is known to be sensitive to low battery volts and failing impact sensors. Might be worth checking the age and quality of your battery as a first step - lots of modern cars including Jags don't tolerate low volts well during cranking as the controllers struggle for volts and volts under cranking is the first thing to go with aged batteries. Tip - hold down start button before putting foot on brake, after a few seconds plant foot on brake when all controllers have initialised. My trigger is the 'Press brake pedal to start...' message. There are a couple of threads on this very issue on JaguarForums UK and Jaguar Forums.

Hi Jim

Thanks for the tip. I'll try the button then brake thing. Have never done that. The warning message tends to come on about 20 mins into a drive and not on start up. then stays on till I stop the engine and doesn't come on again when I re-start. Weird. It hasn't happened for a couple of weeks. But just to keep me entertained, in the last couple of days the car has developed a crazy very loud 'squeak' from the rear at walking pace - especially over uneven tarmac. It isn't the heat shield drop off thing - that has been sorted. Am hoping is a quick squirt of something will stop the squeaking.

Am planning to pop in and see Fisher on Monday afternoon and will then decide re the service. I'll let you know how it all goes. When I am there I'll need to resist the urge to buy this biggrin :

Good evening. You could try Grantham Bridge garage in Droitwich . Its an independant Jaguar specialist owned by a guy called Ray who is the Chairman of the local branch of the Jaguar Drivers club with many years experience of working on these cars..I also recently purschased a 2007 xkr and was looking for someone I could trust to look after and service my car.
He is a really nice fella and very knowledgable. Hope this helps best regards
