Just browsing the internet, and stumbled across the European sales figures for the Jaguar XE:

Only 18,999 sold Europe wide in 2017....

http://carsalesbase.com/european-car-sales-data/ja...

A look at the rivals:

BMW 3 Series: 129,053

Audi A4: 146,006

Mercedes C Class: 176,915

Whilst you could say that makes the XE is rather exclusive, it seems the XE has not really been a great success, but I was surprised how few are sold.

The same trend seems to be there for the XF as well (12,000 sold) versus BMW 5 Series (110,000), Mercedes E-Class (128,000) and Audi A6 (79,000).

Food for thought...

Not really. Jaguar are a massively smaller company than the German three. I’d be surprised if they could physically make many more cars than that. Certainly they don’t have the manufacturing facilities to match the German numbers.

Did they offer the same sort of discounts and finance deals and fleet deals on these that the other marques did? I've no idea by the way, I'm just wondering if that has anything to do with it? If you could get into one of the same spec German cars for less monthlies, then that could explain the poor sales because on paper, the Jag's look like a nice alternative.

There’s also the whole company fleet buying thing. If your company’s policy excludes Jags, it’s a bit of a downer. BMW et all are more ‘mainstream’ and acceptable.

I know the XE was launched as the mk1 XF facelift was nearing end of life. But the last year sales figures of the old XF were higher than the first year of the new `XF in the uk. Now that’s some accolade.

Mind you, the new XF and the XE don’t have anywhere near the same road presence as the facelift mk1 XF. The new Interiors are lack lustre too. But I am biased.

I can't tell them apart. Though I did find myself closing on a dark green Audi recently that looked quite nice, and thinking 'I didn't think Audi made green cars'. It was an XE. Well done Jaguar, mission accomplished!

The new XF got hit, as a lot of owners switched to XE because they wanted a smaller car, but previously Jaguar didn't have one available, and also the F-Pace came out, and a chunk of owners switched to that.

Bmw sells more cars in the Uk then jaguar do worldwide. Astonishing, isnt it...

Jag don’t seem to compete as well as the German marques with exhaust emissions so they’re always going to be at a disadvantage in the company car sector where the volumes are usually posted.

Interesting

I bought an XF in December. The discount I got was about what I would have got off a 5 series or E Class Coupe, which were my options.

The XF replaced a 530D which was my first choice, pre testing. Unfortunately (for them) appalling service ruled out a new 5.

Mercedes proved incapable of finding me a car to try. I gave up after 6 weeks waiting.

I tried the XF almost by chance and ordered it 2 days later, delivered 5 weeks later.

It’s been faultless, handles and rides much better than the F10 and looks better IMO.

Similar noise levels and a very smooth and willing 250bhp petrol engine that’s averaging 38mpg compared with 44/5 for the 530D.

The interior is less ‘flash’ than the G30 but I’ve grown to like the simplicity.

Given this, I’m surprised by the low numbers, especially in the UK. I guess image/brand/fashion is all?

Also the new XF feels cheaper inside compared to the old one (which I have decided to stick with) whilst naturally costing more. If you're looking to renew your XF and accept it will cost a bit more, then you're already halfway towards the extra cost of the F-Pace.

Unfortunately for Jag I think they've dropped the ball. Old XF/F-Pace and F-Type was an impressive lineup. Now the XE/new XF and E-Pace seem to dilute the demand and make the range seem a bit uninspiring.

The F Pace interior is very similar to the new XF interior.

It's time to employ a German software engineer then...

And the XJ, which should be the flagship, doesn't even get a mention.

It’s actually the XE dash in the f-pace.
