Looking for some help/advice.

I drained the car of coolant the other day to do a flush. Got about 6 litres out. Knowing there was another 4 litres in there i ran the hose through the system and did so until only clear water was coming out of the bottom of the rad. Did the same with the intercooler fill point. Then filled the system up with clean water and put 250ml of rad flush in there for good measure. Did the ignition on/off bleeding/purging business. Ran the car up to temp, eventually fans came on, heater on hot etc. Shut it off, let it cool. I've now drained that out, again i can only get about 5 or 6 litres out which is incredibly annoying. Flushed out with just clean water again until only clean water comes out. Refilled this time just with clean water. Purged/bled as before. However now when i start it it says "engine coolant low" even though it's full. Ran almost up to temp but was really worred about it saying it's low. Didn't wait for the fans to come on as was nervous about the warning. Temp needle didn't quite get to halfway so fans didn't come on as i was keen to shut of as this warning message worried me. Once cool i checked the expansion tank and it's completely full, so not sure how coolant level can be low.

Do i a) continue and run up to temp so fans come on so i know thermo is fully open, ignore error message and just make sure temp guage doesn't keep creeping up, then shut off, leave to cool, drain and refill with coolant, or
b) .....something else?

Thanks in advance!

Well i've solved the low temp warning issue at least. The magnetic float inside the expansion tank had stuck to the bottom when the tank was empty, so once it was full it was giving the incorrect reading. I made the below device with a pair of wooden kebab skewers and one of my hundreds of collar bones from a dress shirt. I taped the skewers together, bent the end of the collar bone to a 90 degree angle and then sandwiched it between the skewers and added more tape. I then slotted this carefully into the tank, hooked it underneath the float and gave it a gently pull and it instantly bobbed up to the top of its pole. Hopefully this may be of use to someone who has a similar issue.
