'Check Pedestrian System' warning
Discussion
Hi all
Have started to intermittently get the message below. Car is 2012 XK with 45,000 miles.
Quick bit of Googling suggests that it could be one if a number of things including impact sensor(s), crash sensor(s), faulty bonnet airbag exploding thingy(s) and weak battery. Seems fairly common but may have various causes.
Anyone have experience of this ?
Thanks

Had this happen to the wife's XF last year. A quick trip to the Jag dealer to reset it with their diagnostic kit (mine wouldn't let me do it).
Iirc, it registers every knock or scrape to the front bumper area, including the undertray. When it reaches a certain value it triggers the warning.

Your best move would be to get the codes read to see if it is a sensor on the way out or if there is something more serious. The RH sensor will be a B1004nn code, the LH sensor will be a B1005nn code. You will likely not see the 'nn' part of the code with a third party diagnostic tool. You may need a new sensor, there are two versions, the older FoMoCo one has two bolts, the newer Jaguar one has only one bolt.
Resetting the DTC will probably not work as if there is a a failing sensor it will just trigger another error message after a while.
The battery is not likely to be the issue unless you are very unlucky. I had these codes triggered on Snoozy (2010 XK S/C) and when I looked at the battery it was the original 8-year old unit. It was in reasonable condition but cranking amps were about 60% of spec. Replacing the battery has been generally beneficial but the pedestrian codes did not go away so my working assumption is that this module is not an extremely sensitive one to battery condition.

I persistently had many direct warnings including pedestrians system check failure. I had the earth point on the front wheel internal arch reppined, this seem to solve most of the warning problems. I then started having battery problems and replaced the battery. All has been well for many months! The news battery actually froze during the very cold months soitefitted yve old battery I had kept whilst I had the new battery checked as it was still in warranty. As soon as I changed to the new battery I started to get all the same old warnings including the pedestrian system check failure! Can’t wait to change back to the new battery again!
My XKR has had this twice.
First time last year, so I had the impact sensor was replaced, only for it to return 9 months later.
Jaguar dealer had my car for over a week, following all the tech, service bulletins, checking wiring and having replaced the other impact sensor, the actuator and the wiring into the acutato,r it is finally cured.
At over 10 hours labour at £150/hr glad all covered under warranty.

I bought my XK-R as an lightly accident damaged car and it took me an age to get this system working correctly, but once I got my head around it all I know these systems inside out now. I buy parts (trade) from a Jaguar main dealer and one saturday morning a tech invited me into the workshop to have a look at an F-Type they had in (the system and most of the parts was still identical to my 57-plate XK-R, but some of the parts have since been uprated to iron out earlier flaws) and he talked me through the whole system and the usual issues.
The vast majority of problems come from the bonnet deployment actuators, which are fairly cheap and easy to change.

hi please help it sounds like you have gone through what am going through now. The vast majority of problems come from the bonnet deployment actuators, which are fairly cheap and easy to change.
I bought a light accident jaguar xe . I believe pretty much same setup as your cars.
I'm getting check pedestrian protection system on dash.
bonnet wasnt pushed up so we presume they hadn't deployed. so we replaced the 2 sensors on bumper with the rubber tube that joins them an the fault still persists.
so I got a friend to read the codes today an the only 2 codes that came up were
B1005-31
B1004-31
left and right frontal impact classification sensor.
we are at a loss to what it is. next step.is going the dealers for an exspencive repair. .
Have had my 2006 XK for two years.. My Pedestrian System alert message is on more often than its off.. Only when driving extensively in France did it occasionally go off for a whole day.. Battery seems fine - but I'm coming up for an MOT and I'm hearing that garages are going to fail cars that have any warning lights "on".. Anyone aware of this? From reading the blogs here I'm not sure that replacing the sensor ( which involves taking off the front bumper) will necessarily fix it.. Any more ideas?
