After a previous post about XF headlight bulbs, i've finally grown tired of changing bulbs as the car keeps eating a set every 3-4 months.

Ebay has given a set of Xenon lights, which will get fitted and the software updated to let them work.
Now, i have Osram Cool Blue Intense D2S bulbs in my Bi-Xenon D3. Which are superb.

What's good for the Jag?

You need more than just a software change. Your car lacks the suspension height sensors and maybe the washer system to make it OEM. Even to get them to light up your probably looking at a lot of wiring botching.

Better to get a kit from someone like Hids-4-u which includes everything you need, keeps the fittings/wiring on the car stock, and if they ever change the MOT rules to outlaw aftermarket HIDS then its 10mins to return to standard Halogens.

I fitted a kit from those 3 years ago & never had an issue. Lights are fab.

Why do xenon lights need washers?

Amused that my 2006 S-Type had xenons yet my 2011 XF had candles.

HID kits seem to be a grey area for future mot testing with some saying they will be a fail.

Not wanting to go that route.
Have read for the headlight washers it’s just a different washer bottle, which has both pumps, the pipe work and the washers if the headlights don’t come with them.

Yes but the factory fit system must have auto levelling and wash. You might get the wash to work with the different bottle and pump etc (but even that is controlled by software - one headlight wash to every 5 screen washes etc). but you cant retrofit auto levelling without major hardware and software changes. So as soon as MOT man looks under your car and see's no height sensors on the suspension he will know that the HIDS are not OEM.

So you might as well save all the hassle and money by getting the kit I mentioned above.
