An f type v6s is my current obsessision / future purchase. Everything I’ve read/watched praises the v6s character/balance/performance. I’m sure I’d be VERY happy with one.... if only jaguar didn’t also make the V8!!

Anyone bought a v6 and then suffered inferiority complex?!

Incidentally I’m currently looking for a V6s convertible if anyone has any insights - market seems to start at a bit over £30k. Any reason to spend more on newer/less miles or big spec?

A friend of mine had a v6, loved it.
I bought a v8 love it more wink

However it depends on so many other factors. I've driven the v6 and they are cracking cars, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

It depends on what you want out of a car, and what you want to compromise on. I drove both and found the V6S felt almost as fast and although I loved the V8 it didn’t turn into the corners as well due to the increased weight so I went for the V6S and have never regretted it. There will others posting on here saying get the V8 but the V6 felt more like a sport car and if you do find it is not fast enough for you it can always be tuned which would increase performance without the weight disadvantage. I do however prefer the quad exhaust on the V8.

Sorry V8 for me too. It’s just suits car so much. The car is not a precision car aka R8 / 911, so having all that V8 power and torque is smile time when you need it .
Have fun choosing

The V6 is very shouty, but the one I drove, drove me up the wall. So V8 for me, but then I currently have a V8 XF. biggrin

Well you lot are no help! Previously had a LS2'd monaro so definately 'get' the v8 appeal, but this will be a semi daily, so VED and economy are a bit of a factor, and I'm thinking the v6 may be more exploitable more of the time? I think maybe I do NOT need a test drive in a v8 in case it gets under my skin!

Any must have options I should look for? It will probably be an earlyish car - Could go to £40k which is bottom of the v8 market but seem to be able to get into a v6s for nearer 30. Black looks ace, but I'd never normally purposely go for such dark colours... decisions!

If your buying a V6 do not drive the V8 !!

I had a new V6S for a day, RWD one it was great fun but felt quite lazy and sluggish on power, felt more 300HP rather than 380HP which is no doubt because its still quite heavy. Handling was fun, alive but a bit edgy certainly far quicker cars point to point.

I then drove an SVR, had to buy an SVR, that lazy and sluggish feeling the V6 had, well the V8 was just savage and bonkers in comparison and it felt like a 600HP car, totally insane performance. Of course SVR is AWD so it also feels much quicker point to point and planted compared to the RWD V6.

One thing I will say is I think the V6 had louder pops and bangs, plus it sounded really quite good, but I do love the sound of my V8 too.

Not driven either but my neighbour bought a new F-Pace last year and the dealer screwed up delivery so lent him a F Type 3.0 for the easter weekend , agree it sounds really nice, nicer than the V8 outside for sure

Drove a V6 400 Sport and found it very muted and not that fast.
Bought a V8 R.

V6 imho is hard work. Need to rev it and rag it.

V8s are lovely, but all the test drivers preferred the balance of the v6.

V8 also struggles with traction. Plus thirsty for a daily driver.

Love my V6, runs winters and a great daily

Spent a fair bit of time with the V6 and V8. I know the V6 is a tad better balanced but the V8 is just so guttural that the choice is easy...

V8.

Depends what you're after and what you get your fun from. I went V6 S as its just the right amount of fast...you can rev it out and get all the noise and the fun without doing silly speeds. The noise is fantastic, and it's genuinely not too bad on fuel. Ragging it I get low 20's, long runs it will do low to mid 30's. Tax isn't bad either.

If you want something really fast in a straight line the V6 won't quite do it, but whenever I drive really powerful cars I just end up frustrated that a few seconds of flooring it and a pull on the right paddle ends up in triple digits, which is why the V8 wasn't for me.
