I've got an opportunity to buy a 2005 Jag xj6 that has been unused and stuck in a garage for 2 years. It's done 50k miles.
Is this going to be a money pit.
It would be my only car that I need to commute to work in. 30 miles per day.
What s the minimum to even get this working.
Cheers

A new battery for starters. Then brake fluid and oil change as a minimum. Check the tyres for deterioration/cracking.

The a/c seals may have gone too - but then again it might all be fine. You can't know/decide until you pull it out and try it. It could be a great bargain.

New battery , make sure its got oil and coolant. Expect it th throw all manner of fault codes when first started as the electrics all reboot . Tyres will undoubtedky need replacing so factor that in , they arent cheap

It will be sat on the stops as all the air will have long gone from the suspension so if possible run it for a few minutes to charge the sustem before moving it. Expect it to throw susoension faults on the dash until its sorted itself out and repressurised.

Get over to www.jaguarforum.com and go to the X350 forum thats the model designation for that years model and ask away. Very helpful and knowlegeable group
.
Once you get your hands on it if you get stuck on anything message me . My last car was an XJ8 current is an XJR so i know a lot of stuff about jags.

Nobody can say for sure, but theX350 is generally reliable and that one's got a modest mileage on it's side.

All you can do is get it out and have a look. I'd check very carefully for paint deterioration all over and especially round the screens boot and bonnet and wheelarches, make sure everything works and get a long drive in to make sure the gearbox changes quickly and smoothly and watch for suspension fault messages. Electrics might throw a bit of a wobbly if the battery is half flat when you start up and there's several earth points prone to corrosion.

You may need tyres, a new battery and I'd certainly budget a few hundred for a full fluid and filter change.

Depends what the purchase price is, probably worth the recommissioning if it's only £500.
