Hi to all and new to the Forum.

Just treated myself to my first Jaguar XF 2.0 Luxury on a 2011 plate, only had the car for a few weeks and its a great car to drive. Unfortunately I now have a problem with the boot, using the in car dash button to release all I get is a solenoid noise going on and off. I also get the same from the keyfob and the boot release button, I have also inserted the manual key into the lock on the boot and tried to release this as well to no success. I have no idea what to do next accept take it to the garage. Really hoping one of you kind folks out there knows something else I can try, Battery on the car is ok and I have also changed the battery in the keyfob too.

Need some help please guys

Sounds like the link rod has come a drift from the boot catch.

Can you fold your rear seats down and get into the boot that way? If yes, you might be able to pull the trim away and get to the catch to see whats happen.

Good luck

Think the rear car seat release catches are in the boot from what other people have told me
But thanks I have a starting place now

The seat releases are in the boot - 2 yellow pull knobs high up under the back shelf. If your 2011 is a facelift the releases became optional extra's bizarrely (Even though all seats on all models are hinged).

Can’t help other than the fact that there was no 2.0 XF in 2011.

Try this. It mat not do anything but worth a go.

keep pressing the release button on the key fob and at the same time slap the top of the boot with the flat of your hand. Do this on the fold edge of the boot lid above the catch area. Try this a few times it might help if something is sticking.

Possibly the same mechanism as used in the disco 4, sounds the same symptoms that I had when mine failed, the solenoid did make a noise but wasn’t doing its job so needed replacing.

Google discovery 4 boot not opening.

Silly question, but the boot lid isn't just stuck on the seals is it? Are you lifting it as you unlock it? Doors I don't often use can get really stuck!

Could be the dreaded boot loom failure, fairy easy to fix with a multi meter. Or replacement loom are available.

No, managed to get rear seats out ....difficult with no catch release but managed. Now fitted internal pull system so seats can be released from inside the car without going into the boot.
Got boot open, slow close motor out looks and operates ok, manual key release ok, solenoid latch lock problem, looks like loom problem. Looking at that next weekend but hey ho nearly there. Cheers guys for tips on it.

Well done for getting the seat down and good idea to fit an internal pull.

Can't quite understand. If its a loom problem then why wouldn't it open manually on the key?

Soft close motor had locked it into permanent lock position, had to disconnect opening and closing cable from soft close motor then was able to use key. At the moment still have power to boot lock but still showing open on dash, solenoid still chatters but when disconnected manual key is working has to be problem on the loom now
