I'm no.2 on the list at my local dealers, but there is no official info yet unfortunately, so all is subject to the accuracy of the automotive press's guesswork.
Interestingly, regarding the intended name, it might just be called the XK. ie with no "8". The spyshots show the rear of the production car having a badge which just says "XK". Why would they go to the trouble of manufacturering a badge just for the test car which only said XK, if it was going to be called XK8 or XK9 (unlikely!) in the end?

Yes, and a diesel and an estate!!!!!
Saw the ALC in Manchester, Monday evening.
Absolutely NO WOW Factor.
Awful front end, dreadful hatchback and rear 3/4 like a Mondeo. What a dreadful car

Well why not a diesel as well?.
Also if you offered it with a 3 Litre V6 you would still get very decent performance-and open it up to a wider possible ownership.
I think the rear looks surperb and it is very practical.
I cant wait to see it in the flesh.

Having been a Jaguar enthusiast for over 30 years I am saddened at what has happened. My local paper today reports that the 3000 + workforce at Halewood made no cars last week and are on 3 day working due to poor sales. Jaguars are aspirational products. Let's face it they are not for everyone and trying to achieve this aim has lessened the brand, perhaps irreparably!

You complain about poor Jaguar sales after saying that you do not want diesel engined Jaguars-The two things are related.
It was the failure to offer Jaguars with a diesel option for so long that meant that Jaguar were so reliant on the US and have now been scr*wed by the falling Dollar.
Why not put the 2.7 TT or a more powerful diesel engine in it?.
Jaguar once led the pack rather than grudgingly and complaining bringing up the rear.

Jaguar should not have built the S-Type or X-Type in the 1st place, if they wish to put diesels in these saloons, so what!

I like my X type
and its a lovely Key ring.
But seriously it depends on whether you regard Jaguar as a Mercedes/BMW rival or as being more exclusive.
The trouble with remaining exclusive is that your cars stay out of the reach of the young and the brand gets an 'old man' image. This image, a legacy of a time when Jaguar remained 'exclusive' is still with us today.

I borrowed an X-Type the other day had it for 3 days, what a load of shite! It should not have a Jag badge, no wonder Jag USA are withdrawing the product from the market. Cheap materials, horrendous, noisy engine, soft spongy suspension, tiny rear seats, no head room, sounded like a trabant!
Got back in my XKR and was in another world.

I'd like to disagree, and agree with JL. The US dollar at the moment is not strong, Jaguar over depends on this market IMO.
I bought a 2000 4 ltr XJ8 in 2002, and have taken it twice now to Germany, and as far as Prague and Vienna. I tow a caravan with it, (I know, I know) but the response on campsites has been fastastic.
Sure they know what a Jaguar is, but seldom see one up close. They put a top of the range BMW to shame and turn heads everywhere.They ARE impressed. But!..............The problem is: The Europeans like to run Diesels because over there it is SOoooo much cheaper. If Jaguar wants to break into that VERY large market (which I believe they can) They need a Diesel! And a Damned good one at that. That is a spurious connection-Diesels are the future, and the best of them can better a similar sized petrol engine for performance. If you stuck the 2.7 TTD in the X type I bet it would be a better car than the 2.5 litre.
Unfortunately I don't think it fits.

An X type is nearly a third of the price of an XK-compare it with a 3 series or a C Class-not the top of the Jaguar range.
It might have small rear seats for the american market, but in all other respects the X Type is the best car I have driven-it is exactly what a compact exectutive car should be, 1 step up from the mass market family cars such as the Mondeo, Vectra etc.
I don't mind if they develop a turbo diesel to rival bmw's latest 3.5 offering. As long as it's super fast and silent. It should still be rather pricey, not a cheap entry level option.
The big mistake jaguar made was to sell out and put their badge on mondeo estates. What a fecking joke! Badge is already screwed IMO. Most people I'be spoken to in the trade consider the last real jaguar was the V12 xjs.
If it's any consolation porsche are going down the pan as well. One day we can all drive the same diesel shitbox and just pick a badge to put on it. I will probably have bentley on mine.

But thats exactly what it is, a Ford Mondeo! Ford parts and a Jag badge!
I do like the look of them though, nice car just not enough Jag thought behind it.
I guess it was developed to create cash flow at Jag, nothing more.
