Any pros or cons fitting one of these pull back roofs in a XJC?

Yes, they are awful; it will leak, increase wind noise and weakens the vehicle structure leading to creaks and rattles. If you want the sunshine, do it properly and make it into a convertible; a lot of work, but makes a fabulous car.

So the roof structure needs to be strengthened to fit a webasto, rather than the whole car if cutting the whole roof off?

I've got a Series 2 E Type with a period sunroof and it does none of the above.

A properly installed Webasto shouldn't pose any problems at all. Certainly far less than chopping the whole top off !

The alternative is to source an electric roof from a modern "scrapper" and adapt it to fit. If you're retaining the vinyl roof of the coupe this will give you a little more leeway on re-finishing the roof on completion.

If I recall correctly Vicarage used a modern(ish) BMW roof on their Jaguar Mk2's.

The webasto pull back design caught my eye because it uses a vinyl covering just as original xjc had a vinyl covering over the whole roof.
When I look at other xjc’s with a paint finish on the roof they look too series 3.
Just thought it makes the most of using the vinyl and still keeping it looking period so to speak

I'm with you on that. The coupes look better with the vinyl roof and a Webasto would blend in nicely. Are the originals, or equivalent, still available though ?

Well I googled webasto and seems to be a few firms that supply and fit or just supply.
