x350 annual servicing
Discussion
How rare is it for a car to actually get a service every year? Jaguar seem to be one of the few more premium manufacturers that go by this as opposed to every 2 years- at least on cars of the x350 age, not sure what they're like now.
Most I've come across seem to go by mileage, even earlier on in their life. Would you not put too much weight on the fact there's maybe 2 years between some services, providing the miles between them are ok?
Assuming they spec a fully synthetic oil to be used?

Low mileage or a big gap between services gets me thinking the vehicle has been used for mostly short trips and possibly not even warming up properly which can be more ruinous long term than piling the miles on several hundred at a time, especially if it's a diesel.
Have a look inside the oil filler cap and take the dipstick out. if you see clean bright metal then there's probably no need for concern but if there's a film of tarry brown or black deposits inside and the oil smells bitter or burnt on a petrol engine then I'd think twice. This doesn't work so well for a diesel as you'll nearly always see black oil even if it's been changed fairly recently but wiping the dipstick clean will give you an idea.
If you buy an X350 its worth having the sealed for life gearbox oil changed.

I've got a 54 plate X350 se that I've had for 21 months and I've not serviced it yet but will be getting it done in the New year.
My service book says every 10k and the car was serviced not long before I bought it and with me only doing 5k a year it's due now.
The car runs like a dream and you would never even know it needs a service but it's being done anyway.
So I'm still keeping to the service schedule of 10k only it's over 24 months because I don't do big miles in it.
Lovely cars by the way if you're thinking of getting one.
