I've been looking for a while now for an X150 XK 5litre convertible with a budget of up to £30k, although ideally nearer £25k. It seems there aren't many around or am I missing somewhere to look for them. I'm looking in the PH classifieds (obviously!) and also Autotrader and RACcars so know what is on those at the moment - and there is one on AT I'm hoping to see this weekend - but wondered if I've missed any other listing that are worth using.

Being awkward though, I definitely don't want silver and would rather not have the dark grey and that seems to rule out quite a few!

There aren't many about so you may just have to wait. What colours do you like?

Many cars have so little colour choice now; it's all black, silver and grey. Mercedes and Aston are prime examples, though Jaguar, for whose current models I have little time, do some very smart colours.

One interesting thing is that whilst I normally find grey desperately boring, on an XK it works really well. I think it's because it's a quiet colour on a loud shape...

Have you tried motors.co.uk, car gurus, aa cars or ebay?

Like this one in black?

https://www.vcars.co.uk/used-cars/cardetails.php?t...

or this one in white

I bet the advertiser loves the fact that the company he paid money to sell his car is telling his prospects that his car is overpriced by £2,195!

Thanks for the replies. In terms of colour I'm not too worried beyond avoiding silver, personally I wouldn't mind grey too much but my wife doesn't like it so that is ruled out. There seem to be quite a few black ones which do look good, my only reason not to go for black would be that my XK8 was black so a change would be nice, but not desperate. Probably my ideal colour would be green or blue, I did see one advertised in a aubergine colour that looked great but it sold really quickly.

I had spotted the white one already, would be nice but I decided the extra features of the Portfolio spec are desirable so I'm hoping to find that which the white one isn't. Interesting to see how the site thinks it is overpriced, I probably agree!

I have looked at the other sites mentioned too but thanks for the reminder! It does seem that overall there aren't many for sale at any time, fortunately I'm not in a desperate rush so will see what turns up.

I think the colours got more conservative over time. The closer to the 2006 end you are the more likely you'll find green, red and blue cars, and also lighter fascias and walnut dash. Then colours and wood trim went out of fashion and IIRC Jaguar cut the options, so the later cars seem to be more grey, black and silver with bits of brushed metal where the wood should be!

Stylewise the marker year is 2009 when the front changed, so you may want to decide which you prefer, and very soon afterwards the gear lever was replaced by the XF-style rotatey knob thing.

PS Has your wife seen a grey XK in the flesh...? You might want to arrange an accidental meeting...

The front end tweaks and "rotatey knob thing" came with the 5-litre car, so if the OP wants this engine he'll get them anyway.

I've had my XKR a couple of months now, and when I was searching I decided I didn't particularly want black as it seemed relatively common, not that I am constantly tripping over XKs anyway. I ended up with .... a black one.

My wife has seen a grey one so that is pretty fixed - I could ignore her wishes but best not to wink

It does seem people were conservative in colour choices when buying new. I'm happy to get a black one but would want a cream interior if I did (my preference anyway). For the X150 I prefer the non-wood dash options, loved the wood in my X100 but that gave the appearance of a proper wooden dash, in the 150 it is just bits of wood stuck on the dash (in my opinion).

I quite like the look of this one which has appeared in the PH listing today - https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/... - but am trying hard to be sensible and not go for an XKR (and I might struggle to convince someone about the colour!!).

Now an R is the one to have. How about this?

Blue
Cream leather
No wood
Manufacturer warranty

Nice, but it has a roof! I'm after a convertible.

I know the R would be great but I'll be doing at least 10k miles per year so want to be a little bit practical in terms of fuel and other running costs.

There is little difference between the 8 and the R in terms of fuel (1-2 mpg) and running costs are virtually identical as there is minimal costs for the supercharger. No difference in insurance either once you get the right quote.

I would suggest you look at the Jaguar approved used site. Two year warranty and you know it will be spot on.

I had reservations about some of the mixtures of colours that the interior of some cars ended up with as a result of having the lighter seats. Grey dash, beige seats, two-tone door panels, various shades of wood; to my eyes some just don't seem very well coordinated, but we all have our own tastes.

I have charcoal with the "dark mesh aluminium" on the dash (only available on the XKR I believe), and the pale headlining lightens things up a bit.

I did view a Kyanite Blue car with beige at a Jaguar main dealer, but was disappointed with the condition so never got as far as considering whether I could live with the interior colours.

Jaguar Enthusiasts Club classifieds and carsandclassic might be worth a look too.

Looks nice. I like Kyanite. Wrong shaped number plate on the rear drives me mad though. You rarely see one the right shape.

I have a 5.0 XK (non s/c). Driving relatively sensibly on a mix of roads a total of 44 miles a day (to work and back) I am showing just over 20mpg. I don't think I can do anything to improve that.

Kyanite is one of my favorite colours.

Have to say I got considerably more than 20mpg from my 5.0 XKR when I owned one. On a return trip to France I actually managed very close to 30 mpg.

I get 23+mpg out of my current XJR (4,2) on mixed local driving and again I've had almost 30mpg when touring in France.

I think it's a pity that Jaguar changed all XKs to 5.0. For the mpg that a 5.0 XKR does, you may as well spend a bit more and get an Aston. The closer you get to AM, the more sales you lose.

2009 5.0L XKR getting 17-18mpg going to a from work largely. To be honest if MPG is a factor, I don't think anything 5.0 L is the answer!

Like the OP, I set my sights on very specific combos in my initial search.
My choice was a Dynamic coupe, though; I did start off considering blacks and grays, with the ivory interior but I widened my colour choice later in the search.
I ended up waiting about fifteen months for the right car to turn up.
The long-and-short, there weren't really that many made (in the big scheme of things) and sometimes you have to give yourself a bit more flexibility.

I'm seeing about 27mpg in my daily commute which includes 5 miles of stop/start bumper to bumper drudgery and 30 miles of free flowing motorway. I have seen 30 mpg on a long journey of mixed Scottish roads - which isn't bad considering the grin factor a 550 PS engine gives; and you won't get that from an AM.
