We went and test drove an F-Pace for MrsC as a possible new car & the size of the F-Pace has put her off buying one, even though in the past she's had 2 VW Touaregs. She's now waiting for our local dealer to receive their E-Pace launch car & I wondered if anyone has pre-ordered one yet?

If it wasn't that the Evoque is so plentiful (aka "common") round where we live, I think she'd be ordering one of those - we've done the estate car bit & Ive a leggy X3, though given the mileage she does (about 24k pa), I'd like her to have something with better visibility on the road & she's not favouring the Merc GLC or the Disco Sport by the looks of it.

We looked at the E pace but thought it was a bit small for leg room in the rear. Have you looked at the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

I think as the E pace takes off you will see quite a few on the roads.

The rear leg room isn't so much an issue for us as we don't carry many read seat passengers. I've had a quick look at the Stelvio, though I'm slightly cautious given its an Alfa & a new platform for them. I think we'll also try the Disco Sport as it sits between the E-Pace & F-Pace in size, even if the tech is a few years old now.

You will not like the interior in the Disco Sport so cheap looking and feel the main reason we walked away

Interesting comment or two earlier about the DS.

Last December I switched from a Jaguar XF V8 n/a Portfolio Plus to a DS because the wife had a hip issue and was finding it a problem to get in/out of the car. I regarded the Jaguar as a long term keeper and really liked the car. It was my third V8 Jaguar in succession over the past 15 years or so. I was rather concerned about the power and performance difference...a loss of around 200BHP.

So, a year or so later and I really like the DS. Wife finds it easy to access and very comfortable, me too. Sure I miss the BHP but the torque with the DS is good and performance around town and on long trips perfectly acceptable. Maybe the 9 speed gearbox helps with this.

I think the interior is very good, not at all cheap feeling. I have the 2.2 HSE Luxury model which is one below the range topper. I like the practicality: large storage areas, good sized load space as long as the seven seats are not being used, etc. Mine has the seven seats option that I did not expect to use but this has proved useful occasionally. Unfortunately, this means no spare wheel and I've got a puncture repair kit instead, which is a bit of a concern. I like the panorama roof, leather seating etc. Mine is Santorini black with ivory interior.

I do not like the satnav, but the rest of screen functionality is acceptable. Other than this, there's nothing else I dislike.

All in all, I've come to like the car far more than I anticipated a year ago.

I think that as the Evoque is branded Range Rover and the DS is branded Land Rover, the former is targeting a higher market than the latter, hence the perceived difference in look and feel of the interiors. This view is not supported by the prices though...both are about par.

We're hopefully dropping into our local Jag dealer tomorrow as I spotted an E-Pace in the showroom as I drove past today - I'd like to see the quality of the interior materials & MrsC wants to see how comfortable the standard seats are, or whether we need the additional adjustment?

First time I've seen that. What compared to? Perhaps option-sensitive? Wife and I both had Evoques and both had full leather inside, nicely designed and the switchgear felt very good.
