After umming and aughing for ages and my first world dilemma managing to wake me in the night, I thought I'd ask the wisdom of the forum.
I'm looking to buy one of the above models, but am undecided on what direction to take. The car will only do 2/3k miles a year as a 3rd car wafting about.
The options as they stand..

2004 X350 Super V8 LWB: Specialist dealer, top top money, reasonable warranty, good MOT history all the right jobs done, suspension/ gearbox oil, big plug change etc, serviced band on time, rare spec, not quite my idea colour scheme ( as I've done its colour scheme to death over the years ) but would no doubt feel " special".
2004 X350 4.2 Sov LWB : Indi dealer, 20k miles less than above but £2.5 grand less ( although this one is non supercharged and I'm negotiating hard on the first car and price is moving ). This one has no history as the old boy went to France for the last 7 years other than French MOT's .They are happy for me to speak to the previous owner and will get a letter from him confirming everything he's had done, and anything will be done before sale.Like the idea of not having the supercharger whine, but resale is a worry because of the above.
2008 X358 XJR both private sales. Both done 130k miles, and yet are more than 2 grand apart in price. One seems to be below market value, maintained by him (mechanical engineer)for last three years /60k miles ( previously MD servicing) all genuine jag parts. Very honest description over the phone that it could to with a good polish etc. Good MOT history.Jag enthusiast, owns other Jags.Potentially I see this as the one that may have the best chance of a little appreciation over time as it is one of 98 made and very cheap compared to others of this type ,but big road tax for the little mileage I'll be doing.
2008 X358 XJR , pretty much similar to above, maintained same way, very well known and respected member of Jag forums, immaculate body, slightly less spec than others, but can't get my head round his price, at least two grand more than same car above.

The car is more of a sentimental purchase, lost my mum nearly a year ago, dad has always wanted me to have a Jag and I'm hoping to turn up on his doorstep a year to the day that mum passed and show him what I got with the 8 grand premium bond money she left me! I won't be hooning around in it, as I have other cars for that, this will simply be a feel good thing, something to look at and admire ( as I couldn't afford Kelly Brook) and to waft around relaxing for 2/3 miles a year.
Car number 1 is probably favourite, it's over what I wanted to pay, not 100% my colour scheme( if it was silver with black I'd have probably already bought it) but there's something about that makes me keep coming back to it.The cheap X358 XJR at 2k less than car number 1 and 4 keeps telling me I'd kick myself if they started to rise but at 130k miles there can't be that much potential for it.
Any views please ? I appreciate no one has a crystal ball, and they all seem decent cars.
I'd also like views on the differences in feel between the Super V8 and the XJR ? Seats, ride comfort, noise etc.
Thanks in advance all....

Well if the definition of madness is replying to your own thread then here goes!
think I'm going away from an XJR and edging nearer a super V8 LWB having driven both versions a couple of times. Went to view and drive a Super V8,nigh on perfect spec and colour, but a private sale history lost ( possibly not permanently though) and a body that pretty much needed a complete respray, with a hideous blow over at the rear. I reckon the seller will be lucky to get 5 grand, let alone the £8.5K he wants.Shame, because it's a great looking car from a distance!

Bravo, certainly a nice choice. Did you ever consider the previous X308 generation? Ride quality and roof lines are ever so slightly nicer. Top of the pack, but hard to find, would be a 2000 to 2002 Super V8 short wheel base with R1 package (Brembos). Anyway, I‘m sure you‘ll pick the right one. Good luck!

I'd love a Super V8 but I have never driven one, X308 or X350. Good luck with your search

I have always had a soft spot for Jags, and have always wanted to own an X308 XJR as I don't think they are nicer to look at than the X350. having said that, I have always been scared off by rust, which is why I am in the process of purchasing an XF SV8 instead.

I did also consider the X350 XJR.Have you been to see the cars in question? I would go for the one that is in the best condition if it were me, cosmetically and mechanically. You can take mileage into account, but I think it is more important how it has been looked after.

Good luck!

The X358 is certainly the most desirable IMHO. Prices of low mileage ones are holding up and perhaps even rising.

Beauty is in the eye etc... but the X358's look much more imposing whereas the earlier cars are a bit too understated.

I've currently got an X358 but have owned earlier versions. All are great cars.
