Hi All,

Which engine is the most reliable? The 3.0d xfs or one of the V8's? I will be using the car as a daily but not that worried about fuel as will be doing 10k-12k miles a year.

What would people recommend?

Thanks

You are not doing enough miles for a diesel especially if this is made up of lots of short journeys rather than much fewer long ones. Diesel has DPF and turbos so more expensive to maintain. Get a V8 pretty bullet proof but look to change the valley pipes at 10 years old/100K miles as if they burst rather than leak you risk over heating the engine and possibily getting stranded 200 miles from home!

My commute is 25 miles each way, I work from home on average, once or twice every 2 weeks. Is a 25 mile run not enough for a diesel?

A well cared for, low mileage 3.0 petrol would be where my money went. It's a well proven engine, 240hp is sprightly enough and it's maintenance costs are low. No cambelt either, unlike the diesel.

Each to their own of course smile

That use is perfect for a diesel. I'd recommend an XFS 3.0. Had mine 2.5 years and done 30k in it. Never had a dpf warning or any other diesel related issue. Goes like a stabbed rat but will do 45mpg on a gentle run and its half as much as a v8 to tax.

Needed a new battery and a new rear shock (to cure a clunk) in my ownership. That's been it.

Lookout for the S over the base 3.0d. You get an extra 100nm torque and 35bhp for no increase in running costs.
