Hi all,
I thought I would sign up to this section, I have just recently brought a beautiful Facelift XKR 5.0 S/C with the black pack. I have never had a Jaguar before and this was the first one I viewed in person after looking at so many other cars/models on/offline and I knew it was the car to buy.
Anyway, the bottom line is It is lovely and I will try and get some pics done next week to post up. Looking forward to reading tips etc here.
I have already read about the Fuse 19 in the back seats to release/Leave Open the active exhaust so I may try that this week too.
Great site and I have enjoyed reading the Jaguar related threads and the Gassing station ones. If there are any UK meets I am more than happy to come along to compare cars!

Yes all checked by dealer and will replace straight away if volts drop or battery gets low over winter.
That engine noise is awesome coming from powerful turbo fwd cars with no noise.
I will enjoy this one I know it. It looks so much better in the flesh. It's a beast of a car.

Thanks Guys, I will be doing a photoshoot of my car soon, so I will update when I can.
p.s regarding the battery. I have spoken to a few guys in the trade and at Jaguar and the reason that seemed to crop up a lot with the batteries draining is regarding the car not shutting down the software/relays etc after switching the engine off due to not using the electronic Hand/Park brake when they leave the car. Putting this on every time is a final shutdown and seemed to sort a few cars out and they didn't have any battery problems after this from what I have been told looking in to them.
My theory, I look at it like a laptop, folding the screen down and leaving on standby and coming back to it or shutting down properly each time (handbrake) and switching off.
I will try it and see how long the battery lasts anyway.
p.s regarding the battery. The park brake thing is new to me. I've heard that double-locking the car (pressing the button twice) can help, though I think everything should switch itself off after a while anyway.

The parking brake thing is new to me too, but then I always use it. However Jag's electronics and battery voltages is not something new to the X150, my first Jag was an X300 XJ6. It's the same thing there, any weird electrical issue and the first thing to do is to check the voltage or just stuff the thing on a charger just to be on the safe side.

No need to worry about Fuse 19 if the car is a 5.0 XKR.Just press the button for dynamic mode (the chequered flag) and the valves will open up and stay there.
Next button to press will be the DSC for a little bit more fun.
You could hold it for 10 seconds and wait for the beep .... that puts you in DefCon 1 for proper tail out entertainment
And always remember, gearshift setting "D" stands for dunce but "S" is for smartypants!

A quick question about this Fuse 19 then, If you can just press the Dynamic button and it opens active exhaust from start button why do people remove the active fuse on the XKR? If it is as simple as pressing the button down on start up etc
I thought I read somewhere Dynamic mode the exhaust is only active still over 4k revs not under?
Sorry I can't test this as my car has gone in to have its service & mot.!!

I don't believe they have the dynamic mode option.
The active exhaust valves don't open on a 5.0 litre car until 4k revs and even then it's throttle position dependant - just like the earlier 4.2 cars - unless you've entered dynamic mode.
If you like that sound then your next move will be to change the centres pipes to a crossover style like the XKR-S.
The cat growls a bit more convincingly then.
After that you can fit a pair of 200 cell catalytic converters for a bit of snarl.
Up to this point the car is still fairly civilised when not in dynamic mode.
Final psycho exhaust would be a rear box delete for full noise ..... one day maybe.

Best option is to turn traction control off, launch flappy paddle mode and have a play to learn how these cars handle on / over the limit.They've got loads of grip and with throttle balance won't kill you ..... unlike a TVR !!
Further advice ..... drive to a safe "very empty" location before doing the above
and buy some shares in Pirelli !!

I have been having a good old read on a few Jag forums and this is what I conclude from it all. On start up they Open quickly then close at 1100 rpm-3500rpm then opens again. If you Press S Dynamic in N or P the valves open, If you use S/Manual Shifts when on the move they stay open.I don't believe they have the dynamic mode option.

If you want the Dynamic sound under 4k revs (open) removing Fuse 19 will stop/cancel ECU and the valves will stay open at all time i.e driving in D mode (if you didn't want dynamic driving). Though it is not all confirmed.
I guess I will see if my fuse is in there and try it at lower revs and see if it sounds different.
I will probably end up leaving it in as I don't want it too loud in traffic/neighbours and I guess this is why they have done this design, so you can pull away nice and quiet in town/driveway with just the V8 rumble not the loud exhaust until you get going etc

Fuse 19 has just been put back in when it was serviced and I miss the extra noise so I will remove it again
