2012 XK tyre repair kit - what should i have ?

Hi all.
My recently purchased XK has no spare and has just a kit with a can of gunk and a compressor which is plonked in the otherwise empty space saver wheel well. The locking wheel nut is just loose.
Was wondering whether this was normal or whether, on a car where the space saver wasn't specified, I should have some sort of foam / plastic moulded thing in the wheel well ?
Why every buyer didn't select the space saver option I have no idea ! Why wouldn't you ? I now gave to try to source one but that's a different issue !

Hmmmm. Thats what I need. But I'm wondering what, when space saver wasn't specified as an option like with mine (maybe space saver was standard in 2006?) what I should expect to see. Or not see. Seems odd that the gunk kit and locking wheel nut key would just be left to roll around in the spare wheel well.
Need someone with same 'non space saver' situation to have a look in their boot and maybe post a pic...

I'd suggest something has been swiped.
After the front of my XF got severely remodelled I went to the salvage yard to see if I could remove any bits for sale on eBay. I wasn't allowed to, but the car went off to auction for parts and it had a perfectly good space saver etc in it, so they must be around if you keep your eyes open. It may be that an XF wheel and tray would fit in the XK well, which would open up the possibilities a lot.

My 2010 XKR , ex demo , does not have a spare wheel . There is an air pump in its own case with straps or velcro to hold it in place
at the rear edge of the well. The locking wheel nut stud is on the left in a slot in a block of polystyrene. I think there's a towing eyebolt
in there as well.

Ahhh. This sounds more like it. I don't have a polystyrene block nor, thinking about it, a towing eye (unless the towing eye is hiding somewhere behind a panel on a 2012 model). I think the previous owner bought a space saver and must've taken out the poly block / eye when putting that in. But he kept the space saver when he traded it (for another newer XK) but must've not put the old block back in. at the rear edge of the well. Any chance of a photo of the polystyrene block ?

No spacer saver in my 2010 XK or in my 2012 XKR. Bought a second hand spacer saver from a Jag breaker with jack etc. Mind you. The one for the XK didn't fit the XKR. (bigger brakes) .
Also bought a large wheel bag to put a damaged wheel in if needed. We don't want to dirty the seats do we.

Hmmm. If I do try to buy a space saver kit I need to make sure I get the right one then. Its a 2012 facelift XK Portfolio on 20" wheels but I assume with normal brakes not some high performance ones (calipers are plain but last owner had them painted black).Also bought a large wheel bag to put a damaged wheel in if needed. We don't want to dirty the seats do we.

I'm sure I could fit a wheel and tyre in the boot of my old X100 XKR. Assume then that the X150 boot is shallower towards the back where the tailgate is lowest. We must be mental to buy such impractical cars (but they do look, and sound, so great !)

Nothing about the XK makes any sense. It's big, it's not economical to run, it costs £500+ to tax, it has a tiny boot and back seats that only a chihuahua could use. I have to disagree on the boot size - it's actually pretty big, just a relatively small hatch. You can get a lot in there, just have to play Tetris a bit to get it all in...Shirt587 said:

It's actually quite decent for shopping bags as you can stuff them into the 'hamster cheeks' (a bit like a Griffith) and if you have enough bags they brace across the width so they doesn't fly about under lateral G.Height can be an issue - a bag of garden waste is a non-starter - but XK owners will simply pay other people to carry high stuff for them

Always bit of fun putting the roof in a Griffith or the Chimaera. Evening more fun was the S1,2 and 3 if they had their space saver wheel in the boot. Height can be an issue - a bag of garden waste is a non-starter - but XK owners will simply pay other people to carry high stuff for them

What the license minder?I usually set that up when doing long motorway stints, most on the Merc. If you kick down it turns off automatically. I prefer to use the limiter than cruise control.

I'm pretty sure my S3 had a two part roof. But with the Griffs I'd take the spare wheel out, then roof panel, in, then wheel in front.Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
