XKR Conv 4.2 or 5.0

Hi All,
As per the title really! I'm seriously considering an XKR convertible and was wondering if there is a massive gap between the 4.2 (06-09) and the later 5.0 cars. I've test driven a 2012 5ltr and thought it was fabulous but I'm wondering if it really is worth an approximate £15k premium over an older 4.2. My current thinking is that the later cars still have a little way to fall in value but a decent 4.2 at say £23k might not have too much further to drop. Are the later cars really that much better? I won't be doing too many miles, say 3k-5k pa at most as it would be used as an occasional car and after much research I'm going to try and squeeze my two little ones in the back on the odd occasion, any experience on this front?!

The back 'seats' are weird little things, more of a decorative feature than seating. I suppose you *could* get a very small child into them but it would be a pretty unpleasant experience I think.By contrast the back seats in the X100 model look sumptuous!

Not quite that straightforward. The 5.0 cars have a harder time putting their power down than the 4.2s. Along a twisty road there's less in it than the ~100bhp difference would suggest on paper.500hp vs 400hp do you really need to ask ?
That being said, the 5.0 cars (after a certain VIN number) get the slightly revised gearbox, also the suspension is stiffer between all the 5.0s and 4.2s (depends if you prefer that or not), other than that most changes are largely cosmetic.

5.0 would be my choice. Depreciation, they don't stop till get get around 20 years old by which time you are looking at the costs of keeping them running.
I would say the price for low mileage 5.0 convertibles is the same, if not higher, than last year.Edited by mph on Saturday 15th July 17:10
Bought a blue 5.0 XK convertible in Feb last year. Sold that in Nov and bought a white 5.0 XKR coupe this year.
I made money on the convertible.
Haven't tried to sell the coupe yet, so not sure if that will hold or make money.
The convertible had very low mileage as does the coupe.

Went to look at 2012 XKR on Friday, beautiful car in a great spec and low mileage (less than 25k), however we couldn't agree on a figure so walked away, what do you think a facelift 2012 (registered early in the year) XKR covertible should be going for at a main dealer?

I bought my 2010 XKR 5.0 Convertible last October, 80'ish K miles - £27k.
It was about the cheapest 5.0 conv around at the time as the garage had just dropped 2k off the price.
Must see how they price up now. Would be nice to not be losing loads on it.
Fantastic bloody car though so not surprised they're holding their prices.

There's a 2010 XKR on for £27k with 87k miles on it so I'd suggest yours may not have moved! Glad your loving yours, What are they like at this sort of mileage and age point? The 2012 I looked at as I said was beautiful but I just felt it had a bit further to go money wise and I believe my offer (38K) was realistic but would it really feel £11k more than higher mileage 2 year older car?It was about the cheapest 5.0 conv around at the time as the garage had just dropped 2k off the price.

I can quite comfortably get my 2 9 year olds in the back on booster seats with very little compromise in driving position and I am 6'2". They don't have masses of leg room, but I guess your not travelling hundreds of miles. They do get a bit windy mind.....
