Hi all,
I have a 1992 XJS which I transpanted a 1995 XJR6 into, which I did several years ago with great results, larger injectors, free flowing large bore exhaust, no cats, over driven pulley system from (Powerhouse Performane UK) & Motec computer to run it, 420HP.
But after reading the power gains of modifiying the blower by porting it got me wondering how much more can I get from it.

So bought a old Eaton M90 blower off ebay and got to work porting the inlet and outlets and polished the silencer slots as well.
So I modified it by opening up the outlet by removing the two bolt lugs that protrude into the 'V'.
I also radiused out the inlet by porting it, to smooth out the air flow.
The power increase is about 15% more air flow, does not sound much, but the mid range flow is incredible.

All this was done over the time of about 2 hours tops with basic hand tools and a Dremel tool.
Of course you need to replace all the bearings once you spilt the unit, again done with no hydraulic press and such, just a bit of thinking thats all.

Car certainly goes better and very responsive, and oh the sound from the blower is great.

Interesting. Have you looked a going down the Maxbore route on the throttle body?

A well-known mod on XJR6s in the USA.

www.maxbore.com

They widen the TB from around 76mm to 82ish mm. Although Maxbore does not give figures, the usual claim is for a 20% increase in surface area, and around 20-30 bhp increase.

No problem. It will be good to hear of your progress.

I'm planning on dropping an XJR6 engine into an E Type and have already done the pulley modification, am researching getting the manifolds coated and then wondering if that is enough for a fifty year old car designed for about 150 bhp, especially as I want to keep wheel width and tyre choice as close to original spec as possible.

But a bit of TB and supercharger tweaking may need to be consideredsmile.

Best

Peter

Now that sounds very promising, what a great combo that would be the power to weight ratio would be staggering.
I believe the E type would strucually be very solid, smilesmile
Be great to seee some photos of that conversion, as it would never have been undertaken before.
Good luck Peter keep in touch Cheers Dean

Dean,

I'm afraid it sort of has - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VJ0LaNqqJ0 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF0nWXGSZ0c

It has been done on a Series 3 (former V12) i.e. the bloated E Type, but I've not heard of it done into a svelte S1, but the engine block is fundamentally the same in dimension as the original but a lot lighter, just the blinking manifolds on the wrong side and a supercharger to fit in...Am getting photos as build starts getting interesting. Photos of walnut blasted cars have limited appeal...
