2011 XJ flickering headlamps

A new jaguar owner here, be gentle!
I bought an XJ luxury a couple of weeks ago, and up until the beginning of this week is yet to turn the lights on! When driving in dusk I noticed that the lights flashed off, then back on a few times in my 30-mile commute. This is with the lights in 'on' mode, rather than auto.
Puzzled, I looked up a few things, but drew a blank so I could only guess that it was the stalk at fault, as both lights were flickering at the same time.
I spent a few seconds at the beginning and end of my journeys turning the selector on the stalk back and forth a few times - thinking that the connections may be a bit poor if the car has been left on 'auto' for a very long time.
Problem solved, I thought, as I've travelled the week so far without the issue repeating, until once tonight. SO! I'd like a bit of expert advice as to the cause, if I haven't already got there.
It's possible that I've found the solution, on the basis the lights flashed a few times on Monday, then nothing for a few days after a bit of switch fiddling, but perhaps I haven't done a good enough job.
The alternative is to get some professional help, on the basis that it's booked in for some other minor work at the end of the month.
