I've got a rather Thirsty X-Type 2.5V Auto and I'm getting about 22 MPG with motorway and town driving.

Is the 2.1 V6 Manual any better on fuel? would it be worth downgrading?

They are thirsty cars. The 2.1 will be better as its not awd. For economy tho you need the diesel. I swapped a 2.5 petrol for a 2.2d and the diesel was a better car all round and much faster in real world driving. That said they are getting old now and ending up with a dog will cost you much more money in repairs than you'll save in mpg. So if your 2.5 is a good un it might be better to keep it.
