I currently run an XJ8 and planned to upgrade to XJR (new shape) later this year, but then found an XKR Convertible with huge spec locally and have now confused myself by looking at XKR coupes as well!

Problem is I actually like all three!

I don't actually need a 4 four seater, but do I pay the premium for a convertible and some posing, or save some money with a high spec coupe

Any suggestions - will be purchasing 2nd hand few years old

Ooooh, tricky one.

Personally I'd go for the XJR - although some reports criticise the ride.

Other than that if it's between the XKR coupe or convertable.... Are you a man or a poser?

Go to a dealer, drive all three and take your pick. Can't fault any of the choices.

Enjoy!

I agree with Groomi. Right now I'd have a convertible, witner I'd have a coupe. When I'm going out with friends into town, an XJR.

Go drive and choose.

If you don't need 4 seats get an XKR Convertible.

OOOOOOOOOOOH a very tricky one indeed!

XKR is a stunning looking car, especially in its current, end of the run, incarnation. But, dynamically, the XJR is the better car. The decreased weight (200Kg less?) gives much improved performance and handling.
Pitty it has a FAT ARSE.

Then again, you haven't mentioned an S-Type R. Just wait until LaurieB finds this topic. Best of all worlds he will say.

If you are OK with the shape of the S-Type R, you can tweak that to 450 BHP very economically and this model is a lot easier to drive at Warp 10 than an XJR 350 will ever be.

So why not pop down to Elstead Mill tonight for this month's R Club natter - starts at 18:00 - and see what the team thinks ! You probably need to set off now from Bedfordshire !!

Chas, have you been drinking?

S type R may be a fantastic car, and Lawrie's is awesome. BUT - it is so UGLY. Personally I would rather walk!

Had both XJR (X308) and XKR. Loved XJR but it is not dynamically superior to the XK!

He's referring to the new one (X350). With a significant weight benefit and a longer wheelbase / wider track it should be better dynamically.

However, if somebody wants to hand me the keys to one to prove otherwise - I'll happily agree

Fair enough. But that new XJR is so ugly, almost as bad as an S Type.

Are the new models real jaguars? I'll get my coat, I expect...

I think they've resisted the temptation to plaster "Powered by Ford" along the flanks thus far

Lets just remember that there certainly wouldn't be a Jaguar anymore if it weren't for Ford. All bow to the blue oval (I've got my fingers crossed behind my back )

Just wait. You'll be able to order a diesel LX estate soon. Obviously a real jaguar through and through.

I don't think the Ford influence is a bad thing. A delicate line has to be drawn though, to maintain the separate identities of both. I think Ford have done this, and after all, what a great big parts bin to plunder.
