Obviously prior to actually picking up one's new (to one) XF, the thought of remapping occurs for some additional gruntage. Anyone done this?

See how it goes first. By the time the car has worked out what you want it to do and got its cogs in the right order, it's deceptively
fast.

Use 'Dynamic' mode because then the car behaves like it should and you won't have to stamp the accelerator pedal into the carpet to make it wake up. This setting should be default IMHO, with the current alternative marked 'Slow'. 'Sport' mode (on the rotatey thing) merely drops a cog regardless of what the car is doing.

NB Dynamic mode will switch off between trips so you have to keep resetting it.

I'd be cautious about remapping if it's the "S" with the 6 speed box you're looking at. If I remember correctly, the gearbox isn't rated for any higher torque than the standard engine produces so you might be heading for trouble there.

It's the 8 speed.

Agreed it is deceptively fast. On the test drive I thought "meh" then had a look at the speedo.

Perceived speed is a funny thing. My Griffith felt fast at almost any speed because of the noise. Yet when a friend took me for a blast in a Virage, whilst it looked beautiful, it didn't feel particularly exciting. I think if you want excitement, the XF is not a good starting point.

Not quite right. Sport mode delays the change up point. It will use all 8 gears still. And it also changes down faster the harder you brake.

And dynamic mode will switch off after 6 hours of non-use. It doesn't need turning back on every trip inside the 6 hours.

I agree on the latter (though wonder who chose '6 hours' and why) but 'sport' defo drops a cog whatever the car is doing, using more rpm and therefore fuel. Great for accelerating maybe but not for the other 80% of the time. You don't need both features, just one. My XF doesn't have adjustable suspension so possibilities are limited.

All my XFs (2 XFS + XFR-S) use all 8 gears in sport mode.
