XF SPORTBRAKE S Collected today first impressions .....
Discussion
Well travelled about 350 miles and collected my XF SPORTBRAKE S today. The drive home, I could describe as a glide home. Having got confident with the rudimentary controls, wipers, lights auto box, I then broke up the journey by starting to explore the Alladins Cave.
Keeping my eye on the road officer, I started fumbling around the 825w sound system. How far could I pump it up. What music had the previous owner left on the system. No TV as I was driving.
Then my phone rang ..... What fun discovering the voice command. Could this woman do anything. Next two hours talking nonsense and trying to ring everyone I knew. What entertainment.
Car is fully fully loaded being an ex management car.
Back to the drive. Mainly motorway, where the V6 275 BHP was just pouring and so responsive. No wonder it's limited to 155MPH.
I have not yet turned to S mode coupled with the chequered flag button .... maybe a track day!

Great cars aren't they. You may find dynamic mode on the S a bit harsh. I did on my last one, the dealer tried all sorts to fix it, but never did. The RS is a different matter though
Come over to www.jaginfo.org there's more traffic over there, and some great banter.

Come on guys, it isn't that scary. It just sharpens everything up and hold onto gears longer.
Jag screwed it up on later V6 diesels. It's savage if you accelerate from about 30mph, and it selects a too low a ratio for about 0.5 seconds while up at red line, then selects the cottect ratio. It's as though it thinks it's a V8 with a higher red line, then gets overridden by the engine management. My last S went in multiple times to try an sort it, including a new ECU, but in the end they said they're all like it. I borrowed a SB, and though not quite as harsh as mine, it still wasn't good. Much much better on the RS.Edited by fatboy b on Thursday 11th May 08:05
I didnt notice that much difference in S and chequered flag. Just holds revs longer and doesn't change gear as early. Theres no more power.
As for trackday- as good as an XFS is on the road, i think it would be pretty underwhelming on a trackday, plus i think you'd overheat the brakes pretty quick.

Selected sport then the C.F. button, well it was a different set up, must do something to the air suspension. Became very focused and lively ....
Although a high spec car, I would like to put the complete black pack and fit the rear defuser... Can it be down?

Yes it's been done, and there's a 'how to section'.
