I'm looking at one of these as I fancy an auto now, 2007 model SE.
Has anybody got any experience of them. How do they drive day to day, and what should I look for as a potential problem? Are they chain driven, or belt ? and what sort of fuel economy would I expect on a 43 mile A road commute to and from work ?
Lots of questions, but they do seem a decent car :-)

I had a 2006 2.7D and loved it. Didn't realise how fast, quiet and smooth it was until I replaced it with its successor, an XF 3.0D. It was the first time in my life that there was no obvious replacement; the XF was the least worst option.
The cambelt needs changing at 105K miles - best part of £1,000 - and the a/c is a pig to get at if it fails. Mine suffered from corroding wheel arches and a corroded wire in the NSF wheelarch (known fault, cheap Korean wiring or somesuch).
My average economy (some town, some dual) was 38mpg.
It's such a shame that Jaguar and almost everyone poo-pooed the S-Type as being old-fashioned - and replaced it with something that looks 'fashionable' but is not a Jaguar.

IIRC Jaguar is now largely run by ex-BMW people and it shows.
No it isnt but it has responded to the fact that buyers of Audi, BMW, MB etc want a more sporty feeling ride rather than comfy sofa. That was the only way it was going to compete in the modern world. There is much more S-type in the first XF than most people realise.Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
