Jag launches mega-luxe XJ
Long wheelbase model likely to be US-only though
Jaguar is to top its XJ luxury saloon range with a new model, a move confirmed at the New York Auto Show which starts tomorrow.
The Super V8 Portfolio is a sporting, long wheelbase saloon with attitude both inside and out. Spectacularly defined, said Jaguar, by its muscular looks, it will be built in limited numbers to reach US and Canadian dealers from August this year. UK and European deliveries have yet to be confirmed.
The Super V8 Portfolio will be built as a special edition car, mainly for the US and Canada. Visually the look is distinguished by key design details including the sculpted aluminium power vents in the front wings, the distinctive mesh grille, polished 20-inch alloy wheels, and two new exterior colours - 'Black Cherry' and 'Winter Gold'.
Inside, the car is closely based on the preceding Concept Eight's design cues, featuring a modern interpretation of leather and wood trim, individual power-adjustable rear seats separated by a large centre console, and a new-generation equipment list including Bluetooth connectivity, a DVD system with twin rear display-screens, four-zone air conditioning, and an Alpine Dolby Prologic-II surround-sound audio.
Performance
It's powered by an updated 4.2-litre V8 supercharged powerplant which boosts power from the standard model by 10bhp, from 390bhp to 400bhp. A six-speed ZF automatic transmission takes drive to the rear wheels.
Like the XJ LWB on which it is based, it has the longest wheelbase and overall length in the large premium saloon class, but the lightest weight among its rivals. Those dimensions give it front leg and headroom and rear passenger space all comparable with the best in the class. The XJ’s lightweight aluminium monocoque contributes to fuel economy, emissions ratings and performance that are virtually identical to those of the standard wheelbase XJ models, including an electronically limited top speed of 155mph, and 0-60mph in 5.0 seconds.
"The Super V8 Portfolio takes the Jaguar XJ LWB experience to new heights, reinforcing the contemporary luxury and technology credentials of our flagship sedan while adding even greater exclusivity," said Jag's boss Joe Greenwell. "It's a car with a real sense of occasion and one that demonstrates perfectly just how capable the XJ is right across the board."

Very nice car-but only worth getting if you prefer to be driven rather than drive.
Not so sure...the XJs have always been driver-focused, and while this has more pork than the SWB XJR, it's still pretty light and very powerful. I guess it depends on the suspension settings.

"Austria Jeeves - and step on it!"
Surely, with this much 'bling' it should be...
"Austria Leroy, big up the bass and chill the air dog, me and ma honeyz got some cooool luving going on"
... or something like that
Could you imagine what they would do to this on Pimp My Ride

Yeah...stand around going
X - "Right - tunes?"
T - "Erm, it's already got a 12-speaker BOSE set-up with twin DVDs...I don't know what else to do!"
X - "OK, er, paint?"
P - "Well it's running cherry-black pearl, high-spec tints and some blobin' chrome. I'm lost too!"
X - "Interior...we gotta be able to spice up the interior?!?"
I - "Not as such...it's got 4 seriously adjustable independent seats, 4-zone climate, more expensive leather than a Italian shoemaker, deep-pile rugs, electric everything, a kitted-out centre console. I could put a fridge in it for you?!?"
X - "Don't bother...right, come on wheels, we gotta be able to sort the alloys out?!?"
W - "Short of adding spinners to it X, tricky...she's already got 'dubs'!"
X - "OK, lets go to the pub! I'm driving!"
Edit: LoL at the swear-filter's translation of bi*chin'!!!

Very nice car. Don't like the powervents that much though.
And that powerboost is merely a psychological one?
In the pub 400 bhp sounds better than 'just' 390 bhp

Just stop with those vents!!!! It looks like THE design feature of today. Just like that spitugly horizontal chrome thingies on the back of new cars: just don't.
Looks like a decent car with a classic shape: keep it classic - less is more! Learn from AUDI etc.
