Morning everyone (Morning all)

I'm in the process of looking for my next car. My requirement is that it isolates me as much as possible from the outside world for the two hours a day that I spend in it and to be able to accelerate away from the plethora of morons I share my commute with and that it's relatively modern.

I've previously owned an X350 and found it to be the ideal antidote to the modern world. I only got rid when I lived in Edinburgh and didn't have a man who could fix it when it broke. When operating the windscreen wipers turned the engine off, it was time to get rid.

Now I know a man and don't live abroad, I'm inclined to look at a big cat again. It's surprisingly difficult to find info out about what's inside the car on-line so I thought I'd ask the oracles on PH instead.

1. Bluetooth phone link. Do they have it, or can it be re-installed?
2. Music from phone to car. How easy is that to achieve. I did it in the x350 through an FM transmitter, but it was slightly clunky. I'd like a more seamless transition.

I'm looking at something with an 8spd gearbox (6 gears are a bit last century) but I have no idea how that affects the electric bits inside.

Any help gratefully recieved.

I've had both - a 2007 X350 followed by a 2010 X351 (Portfolio)

The X351 had a seamless connection via Bluetooth (to IPhone in my case), which covered both phone and music with phonebook and music lists coming up on the central display. Add to that the voice control and it was all I needed.

With a USB connector in the central storage box the same functionality was available with a direct connection, with the advantage of charging as well.

Ahh - excellent. Thanking you.

Is that the same for most model years, do you know?

My only comment is that I currently have an X350 XJR. I was loaned a brand new XJ while it was having some work done and I really hated it, so try before you buy. A few of the highlights:

The computer is slow. I found myself spending far too much time looking at the screen willing it to do something after I had pressed a button.
The built in satnav is crap - its the same as the one in my X350 - you'll need a tomtom or similar
Side windows are small , in my comfortable driving position the bottom of the window was level with my shoulder
The ergonomics are shocking compared to my X350, particularly the steering wheel controls

On the upside I had a 3.0 twin turbo diesel and it was reasonably quick with good economy.

Thanks for that - much appreciated.

I'm not bothered about the sat-nav. I don't have it at the moment and for the frequency that I do need one, I can always use my iphone.

Will need to try one out, I'm just narrowing down the potential list of cars that I do need to try out!
