Good afternoon folks. I have owned x 3 X308s' amongst my nine or ten Jags (need to count up to remember exact cars!) and am considering a Daimler Super V8 as I have always wanted one but never seemed the right time/circumastances.
I have had a breif viewing of the car advertised in the link below and wondered if anyone knows the car and also any views on it?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-Daimler- ... SwA3dYWV2B

Also, there is no evidence of the timing chains/tensioners being done. Is it anymore complex and expensive than a NA 308 engine to replace and what sort of cost would I be looking at by a good independantfor the work including water pump?

Any comments would be greatly received and appreciated.

Best regards

I've never changed secondary tensioners on a supercharged car but looking at the underbonnet layout access to the cam covers looks very similar so I can't see any reason why the job should be any more complicated than the same on a n/a engine.

3 hours garage labour ought to be the absolute maximum time to change tensioners on both sides even if you go down the factory approved route with timing tools. I've found a much quicker method which also doesn't require any special tools is lifting the exhaust cams off the head which leaves just enough room to tease the old tensioners out and new ones in - with some familiarity a competent mechanic should easily get both sides done using this method in around a hour or so.

Can't get the link to open. Few more pulleys to take off. Nothing complicated.
However would be worth checking water pump. Thermostat. Valley pipes.

I've replaced the secondaries on my DSV8 and it's just the same job as the normally aspirated cars and no VVT unit on them. I used the ty-wrap and exhaust cam lifting method - a real doddle of a job. The only difficulty on all AJV8's is the oil dipstick tube on the left bank - I've modified mine to make life easier. I fully agree about the valley pipes - what a crap idea, having to completely remove the blower to get at another part made from the wrong material.

Thanks for the info. I did wonder about the items you mentioned. If all the above required replacing along with the camchain and tensioners I imagine I must be looking at circa £2k by a good indy, perhaps more?

I believe the dealer selling is completely genuine but seemed quite offended when I mentioned having the car inspected by an independant specialist. If he did facilitate the likliehood is I would buy the car. Appreciate I am talking completely different cars but may end up in a X350 which would be used more frequently...

Hi Rocketman,
No, not a Scotsman, a Yorkshireman, saving up to become a Scotsman. The handle came from a mate who addressed a parcel to me marked Orcade-Ian and it kind of stuck.
Yes, too many bikes and cars,
