Hi,

My car has failed to start twice this week. AA came out to recharge drove 25 miles but it won't start again today. Can anyone afvise the best resonably priced battery and what CCA and AH I should go for? Is it ok to change myself or will it introduce electrical gremlins? Battery has always been fine even sittibg up for a while but need the car this week. thanks James

From experience with my XJR-100 an '019' type battery with about 100 amp hours capacity and about 830 amps or more cold cranking current will do it. There are no good batteries which come cheap and to fit anything other than a known brand of reasonable quality will compromise your XJR. I put a Bosch S5 Silver Plus in at just over £100 (AIUI manufactured by Varta who make the OEM Jag batteries) but now I might look to a ceramic or an AGM type. Giving priority to quality of manufacture rather than fancy technology will get you longer life and peace of mind from it.

I put a Varta G3 in my XK8 4.0 recently, and it has worked fine. Would recommend Tayna as a battery supplier. As you say, Varta make the OEM Jag batteries.
