Hmmm. Well... the money went in the bank for the Tuscan yesterday lunchtime. Went for a potter out today to see a few cars.

I've got a problem. I hate being without a nice car. For any length of time. And I saw something I liked... it had 20" wheels, and a sports exhaust, and chrome interior trim, and Brembo brakes, and uprated suspension, and a full Paramount bodykit.

Oops... I've just gone and bought myself an XKR.

Can I join the club now? Pleeeeeeeaaase? And can you all tell me I've done the right thing? Pleeeeeeeeaase x 2???

Welcome to the club. Now all you need is enough clear road to keep your foot on the floor boards for more than a couple of seconds !

No 450BHP upgrade yet - it's just lacking that and the tiptro gearbox mod. Will have a play for a month and see where I feel it's lacking.

Here's the link (for as long as it stays up):

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/CARS_popup.asp?modelexact=1&id=200510185385022

Waddya think, waddya think? Managed to get a significant discount off that and got them to throw in two new rear tyres for when the current ones expire (and at 285/30 ZR20s or so, that's going to cost 'em!)

Will post up some proper pics after it gets introduced to my particularly heavy right foot this weekend.

So, new-owner questions:

* How many miles do you normally get to a tank?
* Once it says "0 miles remaining" how many miles have you REALLY got left in the tank?
* Given that I'm not convinced the sports exhaust is loud enough, anyone know if I can take any baffling out from anywhere/de-cat it/anything?
* Anyone know what performance (BHP) upgrades are available - is the RGC upgrade the only option (50BHP would be OK, but more would be better )
* Back to the nikasil - I take it Jaguar will only play ball if/when I run into problems if it's been serviced at a dealer?
* Anyone know what a main-dealer service costs (50k service)?

Cheers for all the ongoing support guys.

You are looking at around £500 for two new rears - trust me, I know!
The chances of encountering a nikasil problem are very slim on a 2000 car like yours. The guaranteed way of knowing is to look at the VIN. If it has 5 digits at the end, it is post-nikasil. If there are 6, it will have those liners.
I had a 40000 mile service done recently, and I had to do a bit of negotiation, but got it for about £250. (Try getting a TVR down to that!)

I haven't run out of gas yet, but I know the gauge runs down to 0.1s of a mile (seen it on a demonstrator)

I have taken mine doen to about 2 or 3 miles range, an it has taken almost the spec'ed amount to fill it up, so, again, unlike TVR's, I would trust it as pretty accurate. I tend to leave the sport mode on, and get around 280 to 350 miles out of a tank, depending on what sort of driving I am doing.

On the test drive, it had "10 miles" remaining when I started. By the time I'd finished (less than 10 miles later), it was reading 0, and had been for at least a mile... there was no counting down in tenths.

Great price, great car. Servicing isn't expensive. Car of that year I would go to an Independant.

Well done mate.

Range is only a predicted figure, based on recent driving style. You will notice the range can go up, aswell as down, a bit like shares.

Yeah - figured that! Was being quite enthusiastic - actually managed about 4.2 miles with the 10 remaining (and the 1 or 2 with it on zero)

Shares can go up????

Well, if you drive like that a lot, shares in BP might.

Lovely car JSG - happy motoring!!

I know I'm now hugely bias, but saw a DB7 on Saturday and actually think the XK tips the balance slightly on looks. But as they say, it's in the eye of the beholder, and should my funds one day run to an Aston, then I'm sure my taste would sway accordingly.

Have fun in the mean time!!
